It's a good day when

8 Qawl 164 B.E. - Friday, November 30, 2007 about 11:14 AM PST

It's a good morning when
the aroma of roasted hazel nut coffee brewing
warms the chill of a rainy autumn morning.

It's a good day when
the sound of rain on the patio's aluminum roof
accompanies the sound chanted prayers.

It's a good day when
the clouds that hide the sun
don't deflect from the joy of waking up.

It's a good day when
the patter of rain drops on the cement drive
reminds you of angels singing carols.

It's a good day when
your mood is a reflection of your desire
for the Beloved.

  • My Muse Shivers from the cold

    7 Qawl 164 B.E. - Thursday, November 29, 2007 about 11:52 PM PST

It's cold out. My muse can feel the icy fingers of old man winter forming ice cycles with each breath she takes. It's not even the first day of winter yet, it's still autumn and I've already turned on the heat. However, my muse isn't happy with the temperature in the house, I keep the thermostat at the recommended degrees (69) most of the time.

My muse thinks I should keep the temperature closer to 75 degrees. That would be wonderful, except for the price of heating the house. The power bill is high enough now, without making it any higher. Normally I turn the temperature down at night, but I didn't last night. I think the meter reading is tomorrow, November 30, that means the next bill will come out before I can get pay part of the bill on December 4.

My muse has to learn to live with the temperature the way it is. I'm not sure how much of the back bill we can catch up on before 2008. I sound like I'm complaining, perhaps I am. Since my muse is freezing, I'm going to be writing a lot of cold weather poems or desire for summer poems. This might be a good time to research the myths about winter and use them in my writing.

    Sweeney Todd's Revenge

visit the official Sweeney Todd movie site

Johnny Depp plays Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Todd unjustly accused of a crime and sent to prison. He vowed revenge for both the punishment and the effect it had on his wife and daughter. When he gained release, he returned to get that revenge. He sets up his shop and many of his customers disappear completely. His accomplice is Mrs. Lovett who makes meat pies.

Revenge is central to the plot of Sweeney Todd and Mr. Todd get revenge in an unusual way. Sweeney Todd's so focused on revenge that he can see nothing else, not even Mrs. Lovett's desire for him. This is a case of revenge completely consuming the person getting the revenge.

This is a case of true revenge, because Sweeney Todd does not just go for the person who sent him to jail and broke up his family, but for the entire city. The men he shaves disappear afterwards are, in many cases, ordinary citizen. They enter his barbershop for a shave and never leave. The man he is seeking revenge on will come into his barbershop. However, in the mean time, Sweeney Todd will take his revenge out on the citizen who come into his shop for a shave.

Sweeney Todd's method of revenge is simple. The customer comes into the shop for a shave. Sweeney shaves, the man, gets his revenge and disposes of the body. The way he disposes of the body makes sure it is never found. Deciding on a favorite scene in this movie is difficult because they all carry the plot along.

This is an intriguing movie. To learn more about visit the MySpace page featuring Sweeney Todd.

  • What do you do with a turkey too large for your microwave?

    6 Qawl 164 B.E. - Wednesday, November 28, 2007 about 1:13 PM PST

When you cook a turkey in a microwave you're suppose to consult the manual that comes with the oven. You do this before you buy the turkey to make sure you get the proper sized bird for your microwave. Since I haven't bought a Turkey for either Thanksgiving or Christmas in five or six years consulting manual doesn't help me. The turkey's I've cooked were given to me, so I had no choice about the turkey's size.

Having a bird too big for the oven brings up an entirely new set of problems. The first problem is how do you cook it? The answer to this is simple, you either borrow someone else's oven or you cut the bird up before cooking it. I opt for cutting the bird up before cooking it myself.

This method takes some thought because I have to consider the sharpness of the utensils I'm using. Next I have to make sure the bird is thawed out. After that I remove the packages inserted into the turkey. Now comes the difficult part, where do you start cutting the bird up. I remove the wings first and then the leg quarters. After I've did this, the rest is easy.

I've has so much experience preparing a too large Turkey to cook in a microwave that I'm considering writing step by step instructions.

    Writing Form Poems

    5 Qawl 164 B.E. - Tuesday, November 27, 2007 about 5:41 AM PST

I've written six form poems in the past six weeks. I'm part of a writing challenge at writing.com called Stretch Your Style. Each week a different form is explained and the participants write a poem in that form. This is a fun challenge.

Writing form poetry can be frustrating and fun at the same time. It pushes the poet and writer to go beyond what she usually writes. Many form poems have specific rhymes. Finding rhymes to fit the words and theme without them sounding forced and artificial is sometime difficult. However, it is part learning about poetry and part of the fun.

The forms I've used so far, with their titles, are
    1. Garland Cinquain - Happy New Year
    2. Cyhydedd Hir - Frozen Desires
    3. Ottava Rima - Commemorating the Birth of Baha'u'llah
    4. Quatern - If I Could Choose
    5. Trio-par-Huit - They're War's Bud
    6. Double Rondelet - The Vacation of My Dreams

All the poems are in my writing.com port under Contest Submission, but I'm going to move them to a new folder called Poetry Forms or the Shape of Poems (not sure which yet).

    What is Flash Fiction?

    3 Qawl 164 B.E. - Sunday, November 25, 2007 about 3:29 PM PST

One of my 101 Things to do in 1001 Days is to write a Flash Fiction story everyday. This brings up the question "What is flash fiction?" The website http://www.writefromhome.com/writingtradearticles/197.htm defines Flash Fiction as a story of 500 words or less. Since this type of story contains all the elements that a longer story or novel does, you have to incorporate those elements quickly and compactly. This is sometimes difficult and sometimes easy.

Writing flash fiction is fun. I have found that it focuses your attention on the elements and nutshell descriptions. Long descriptions use words that aren't available in this type of writing. This means that sometimes you have to presume that the reader knows a little about the surroundings. For instance, if you are writing a story about turkeys you have to believe that the reader has some idea of what a hen house, poultry enclosure or barnyard look like.

Writing flash fiction helps improve your technique. When writing conversations the word "said" can't be used all the time. If you have to indicate who is talking then use the character's name with some sort of action that carries the plot along. For anyone who has never written flash fiction, I suggest trying it. Do not give up if your first attempt exceeds the word limit. Simply rewrite. Remember it is easier to cut then to add words later.

    Opening a Gift

    2 Qawl 164 B.E. - Saturday, November 24, 2007 about 12:27 AM PST

Daily Writing Practice Prompt: Write about opening a gift.

Today is November 24, in precisely one month on December 24 I will be sixty-one years old. I have a very specific way to open gifts. I do it very carefully and methodically. I look the gift over carefully and find the locations of the tape. Then I attempt to remove the tape without damaging the paper. It isn't always possible to remove tape without damaging the paper, but I attempt it anyway.

I think I do this because my Grandmother always encouraged us to save the paper from our present. If you took the tape off carefully you could reuse the paper. She didn't use it to wrap another present, rather she used it to line dresser drawers and shelves. My Grandma Newland was a great recycler. I learned a lot from her especially when it came to recycling colorful wrapping paper.

I'm not sure I'll get a gift I can unwrap on December 24. It's been a long time since I received a wrapped birthday present. Usually the present comes in a colorful paper gift bag or an envelope. Last year I received a gift card to a book store.

I enjoy receiving gifts wrapped in colorful paper. Unwrapping them slowly, while I anticipate what I'm getting. I enjoy keeping the paper a few day and considering using it to line a dresser drawer or something similar. I enjoy looking at the bow and remembering my Grandma, remembering her carefully putting the bows away and using them again on a package.

    The Floor in My Garage

    garage floors

I have an older garage with a concrete floor, which is cracked and oil stained. A couple of places in floor is pitted and the concrete looks like it is disintegrating. The floor is ugly and needs work, a lot of work. It looks terrible. I am ashamed for people to see my garage floor, but I'm not sure what to do about it. It may be possible to cover it with tile. I need the advice of a professional, someone who knows more about concrete and garage floors than I know.

The Wind is Blowing and my Connection is Yo-yoing

    18 Qudrat 164 B.E. - Tuesday, November 20, 2007 about 9:16 PM PST

The wind is blowing and my Internet connection is yo-yoing, a nice rhyme, but bit of a problem since I compose my post directly into the blog. I have a telephone hook-up, not DSL, this is a problem when the wind blow, when it rains and when I'm looking at two or more web sites at the same time. The connection yo-yos most when there is wind, which is the problem tonight.

I didn't realize how windy it is out until I went to close the garage door. I heard something outside and thought a dog or cat was getting into my trash cans in the garage. I went to close the door and heard the wind. I'm glad I didn't take the trash cans out tonight, with this wind there is not telling where they or my trash would be by morning.

Writing a blog entry is a bit of a problem when the wind blows and the connection yo-yos. I get cut off at unexpected intervals. Fortunately, Blogger automatically saves drafts every few minutes, still getting disconnected is aggravating.

  • Easing Knee Pain

    Freeze It Gel

The original injury occurred in a high school gym class. In those days gym was a required class in some high schools and junior highs (middle school today). She fell from a piece of exercise equipment onto her knee. The instructor sent her to the nurses office where a cold pack was put on the knee. Since her mother worked and there was no one at home she remained in school and went to the next class.

The only result at the time was a limp and knee pain when the weather changed. However, as Snow (her pen name) got older the knee started bothering her more. Now the knee wakes her up at night and it is difficult to get out of bed in the morning, especially in cold weather. In winter it takes Snow about thirty minutes to get up and get going in the morning because of the pain.

In addition to the difficulty, getting up in the morning standing up at poetry readings is difficult. Snow is a writer and enjoys reading her poetry in public, but because of the pain she cannot concentrate on the poem she is reading or reciting.

Freeze It would allow Snow to focus on the poem she is reading rather than the pain. It would also let her sleep through the night without pain and get up rested in the morning.

Snow would like to enter a Slam competition, but cannot because of the pain in her right knee. Winning a supply of Freeze It would allow her to enter the Slam competition without worrying about the pain. A supply of Freeze It would allow her to get up quickly of a morning and get her day started without pain.

    Freeze It

Freeze It alleviates several types of pain. Three of the most common are (1) Sore Muscles, (2) Knee pain, and (3) Shoulder pain.

    I Always Enjoyed Thanksgiving

    17 Qudrat 164 B.E. - Monday, November 19 about 6:32 PM PST

I always enjoyed thanksgiving as a child. We eat the Thanksgiving dinner at Grandma and Grandpa Newland's. Grandma loved to cook, she made the best pumpkin pie I've ever tasted. In fact the only pumpkin pie I've ever tasted that comes close to being as good is Marie Calendar's. It's a little late to order a pie from there for Thanksgiving, maybe for Christmas or New Years. Not that I celebrate either one, but a pumpkin pie would be nice.

I remember Grandma started baking several days before Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving day she put the turkey in the oven when she got up and dressed. After the turkey, then she made us breakfast which usually consisted in cereal and milk. The rest of the day she spent making the rest of the meal. Thanksgiving was always a big event for Grandma.

    The Menu
    1. Turkey
    2. Mashed potatoes and gravy
    3. Sweet potatoes with marshmallows
    4. Creamed corn
    5. Green beans
    6. Rolls and butter
    7. Pumpkin pie with whipped cream
    8. Apple pie with ice cream
    9. Iced tea for the kids
    10. Coffee for the adults

There is a reason I'm reliving Thanksgiving memories, there is a Thanksgiving contest on writing.com. I can enter either a story or a poem, but it has to do with giving thanks. I'm going to write something about the dinners my Grandmother used to make. Grandpa always said a prayer before the meal started. Grandpa Newland was good at composing prayers before mealtime. Grandpa's prayers were never too long or too short. Maybe I'll write a prayer in tribute to my Grandfather or Grandmother.

I'm going to make Hobo Stew

    14 Qudrat 164 B.E. - November 16, 2007 about 10:05 PM PST

I don't think I've mentioned before that besides being a creative writer I'm also a creative cook. Thanksgiving is about a week away. We pick up the turkey on Tuesday, November 20 at 2:30 PM. This means I have to clean out my freezer to make room for the bird. I'm not cooking the turkey because we're going to my nieces for Thanksgiving and she already has the meal planned.

My freezer contains two loaves of bread, a large container of ice cream, eight ice cube trays, a container holding loose ice cubes, several freezer bags of leftovers and two containers of oats for oatmeal. I'll have room for the turkey if I remove all the bags of leftovers. This means that either Tuesday or Wednesday we have Hobo Stew.

Today when I went to the store, I got hamburger, salsa, Alfredo sauce and ice cream. I'm going to make Spanish rice tomorrow with the hamburger and salsa. That should last us Saturday anyway. We don't have a lot of leftovers, that's why there are so many little bags in the freezer. Normally we eat the meal up either at one setting or two.

I also have some chicken in the fridge I have to boil off the bone. It isn't a lot of chicken so I think I'll us it for the Hobo Stew. We eat most of the leftover chicken today with mashed potatoes made with the chicken drippings. I said I was a creative cook.

I'm going to write my recipe for Hobo Stew down this time. I'm planning a family cookbook, with stories about each recipe in it. That's going to be a fun writing project.

I have a soda machine in my garage

    11 Qudrat 164 B.E. - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 about 12:03 PM PST

I have a soda machine in my garage. It's one of those that you see in fast food restaurant, which can hold five canisters of soda syrup and the stuff that cause the soda to fizz. It wasn't in my garage when we moved in several years ago. It's been in the garage about two or three years now.

The way it got in my garage is really quite simple. Someone ask if I would store it there for a while and without thinking I said "Yes". The guy that ask me has since left for parts unknown and I still have the soda machine.

A year or so ago my brother-in-law took it apart to clean it and never put it back together. I'd put it back together myself, but I'm not mechanically inclined. If I could get it back together I'd either use it or sell it. I can do neither with it the way it is. I don't have a camera to take a picture of it or I'd include a photo with this post.

I really don't know what to do with it anymore. I'm not going to pay someone to take it away, so I suppose it's going to stay in my garage for a long while. I guess I could write a story about it, use it as a character in the story. I could write a poem about it. I just haven't decided which one I want to do.

If I did write a story about it what kind of story would it be? Maybe horror or a suspense thriller. I've never attempted writing suspense thrillers before that would be a new experience. Maybe call it The Nightmare in My Garage.

I'm going to have to do something with the machine before the end of 2008. Actually I'd like to get rid of it before Naw-Ruz 2008. So I'm going to have to find someone who can put it together and test it. I'm under the impression it works.

    The struggle to write

    11 Qudrat 164 B.E. - Tuesday, November 13, 2007 about 9:53 PM PST

Tuesday, November 13, was an odd day. I didn't get a lot accomplished not writing wise anyway. I washed dishes, but I'm not sure that counts as getting anything accomplished. I have to wash dishes everyday. I have to do laundry everyday.

Mom is better now and walking a lot better then she used to. She still uses her walker when we go out, but she doesn't always use it at home. Which makes me nervous, but I don't tell her this because she thinks I worry about her too much.

    Today I struggled to write.

    Today seemed like Wednesday,

holidays always through off my time sense.

    Today I struggled to write.

Did I struggle to write because I was worried,

or did I just not make the effort?

    Today I struggled to write.

    I'm still struggling to write,

so I think I'll end this post and say some prayers

    before going to sleep.

    Veterans' Day 2007

    9 Qudrat 164 B.E. - Monday, November 12, 2007 about 9:41 AM PST

Today most business offices, banks and schools are closed in commemoration of Veterans' Day. There won't be any mail delivery either. The neighbors across the street are flying the Stars and Stripes in commemoration of the holiday. Veterans' Day is actually November 11, but that was yesterday and a Sunday.

I'm thinking about most of the Veterans I've known. There was my Great Uncle Roy, he was a veteran of World War I. That was the war that produced the War Poets, while there was poetry written during World War II it was the poets of the First World War that were known as war poets. My Uncle Roy wasn't a poet, in fact I don't remember him ever talking about the war or rather the Great War that many called it.

My father was a Veteran of World War II and I don't remember him talking much about the war either. I know my father was stationed at Nellis Air Force base in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dad was in the Army Air Corp. I have a picture of my Dad in his uniform and I have a picture of Uncle Roy in his World War I uniform. I'm not sure where the pictures are, but I'm going to have to find them. When I do find them I'll post each with an appropriate poem.

If you click on the title of this post you will be redirected to the Veterans' website.

I love shopping at PETsMART because I can find anything I want there and by shopping on line I don't even have to leave the house. There is a coupon for $5.00 off any purchase and $10.00 $75.00 or more. Plus until December 31 there is free shipping on $50.00 orders.

The second merchant is HickoryFarms Coupons. Another store I love to shop at and online shopping makes buy gifts all year round easy. Saving on those gifts with coupons is even better. There are coupons for 15% of any order, $10.00 off $50.00 or more and free standard shipping.

It's easy to save money on this site and easy to find the merchants. This is wonderful. Now I don't even have to leave home to save money with coupons.

  • A Song that I love

    8 Qudrat 164 B.E. - Sunday, November 11, 2007 about 2:03 PM PST

Daily writing practice prompt for November 11: Write about a song that you love.

There are several songs that I love this time of year Christmas carols come to mind, but I like other songs as well. My favorite Christmas carol is We Three Kings. I used to know all the words to it, but I've forgotten some of them. I still know the important parts of that song though.

Another favorite song is Amazing Grace. I always remember my grandfather when I think of that song because it was his favorite. I know the words to it as well or most of them any way. I have a recording of this song played on the flute. I love that recording even though it's just the music and not the words.

I have my speakers working now so I can play my favorite songs. Another favorite song, which I don't have a recording of is Ghost Riders in the Sky. At least I think that's the name of the song. It's about a cowboy who sees the riders chasing the devil's herd of cattle. I think I'll have to find a recording of that soon.

I think I'll write a poem about some of my favorite songs; especially about my grandfather and Amazing Grace. Maybe a form poem, I've written a lot of form poems lately. Form poems are great when you want to write, but aren't sure of an approach.

  • Stephen King's new thriller "The Mist"

    The Mist by Stephen King

Stephen King has another suspense thriller coming to the theaters soon. The Mist looks like it will keep the audience on the edge of their seats. That is one thing you can be sure of when a new movie of one of Mr. King's books comes out. Every movie based on a Stephen King book, that I have ever watched keeps me and everyone else in the audience on the edge of our seats.

    My Favorite King Movie

The Stephen King movie I like best was "Needful Things". In that movie a new shop, called Needful Things, comes to town. Everyone who goes in finds something "needful". They buy the item; one person finds a baseball card, for a token price. The full price is to do a practical joke on someone else in the town. The practical jokes cause trouble and by the end of the movie, everyone is at each others throats as a results. Only the sheriff suspects what is really going on.

I liked "Needful Things" because it was a comment on modern society and greed. Each individual who bought something in "Needful Things" was so intent on getting the item that he or she did not care who they hurt as long as they got their heart's desire at a cheap price. Another thing I liked about "Needful Things" was the shop. It was dark and mysterious, the name attracted attention and one had to go in, once inside the people found items they always wanted.

By the end of this movie, I was asking my self "How would I react in a similar situation?" I am not sure I would be able to resist buying "my hearts' desire" without agreeing to the practical joke.

    The Mist

"The Mist" tells the story about a group of people trapped in a store by a strange and mysterious mist. There are creatures in the mist, monsters if you will. However, the reaction of the group of people in the store that is the most interesting. They need to work together to survive, but given human nature as it is can they. I wonder how I would react in similar circumstances.

Go to the web site and watch the movie trailers; you cannot resist seeing the movie. I am looking forward to it coming to Las Vegas. Every adult has to see this movie. The trailers show exiting parts of the movie without giving anything away. They are good trailers and with a Stephen King movie, the most exciting parts are not the trailers. I cannot wait to see the movie myself.

    Monday is Veterans Day

    6 Qudrat 164 B.E. - Friday, November 9, 2007 about 10:45 AM PST

Monday, November 12, is Veterans Day, which means almost all business offices and banks are going to close that day. The only the hotel-casinos, grocery stores and gas stations are going to be open in Las Vegas. This means I probably won't be going anyplace.

I can stay home blog and catch up on my writing projects or sleep. The sleep is probably out because while I'm writing I'll be doing laundry. Not that two people have a lot of laundry to do. Normally we do it everyday, but the past few days we haven't did any laundry. I have a load drying right now, but only because I needed some cloths washed before my dental screening this afternoon.

UNLV has a school of dentistry that is close to UMC. I can go to the dental school and have the work I need done cheaply. I hope they accept me because I need dental work bad. I also need to see a doctor and to get new glasses, but I'm going to take one thing at a time. Right now the teeth are the most important.

    Managing Personal Finances

    creditor harassment

Managing personal finances is something writers have to do everyday. It is sometimes difficult and it takes time away from the job of writing. Setting up a budget is a big part of it, but a writer must also learn how to handle creditors and debts. Fortunately, there are places to get information to assist in dealing with these and other aspects of personal finances.

One of the biggest parts of a personal finance plan is budgeting. A budget includes many things, but one of the most important is debt repayment. If our debts a too great their repayment cuts into both necessities and extras that we would like to have. When this happens the consumer must look for ways to deal with the debts without taking away the necessities.

There are four things to consider when dealing debts and creditors. These are

    1. Debt consolidation
    2. Debt management
    3. Credit counseling
    4. Debt relief
Of these four subjects, debt relief is the one that helps the most with stress. Debt relief does three things

    1. It reduces interest charges
    2. It lowers monthly payments
    3. It consolidates debts

Do You Need Debt Relief? Debt relief is a repayment plan, which assists a person is meeting personal financial goals by helping in debt repayment. This type of payment plan helps repay unsecured debts that consist of thing like

    1. Credit Cards
    2. Department store cards
    3. Medical bills
    4. Legal fees
    5. Student loans
    6. Accounts in collection

A consumer looking for a debt relief service should find a trustworthy company. First, find a debt relief service. The Better Business Bureau has a tip sheet called Choosing a Credit Counseling Agency that will help in finding the right debt relief service. Second, check with the Better Business Bureau to see if there are consumer complaints.

There are many benefits to a debt relief plan, one of these is to help the consumer pay debts without filing bankruptcy. Creditors are willing to work with this type of plan because it helps them get the money they are owed.

  • I Don't Know What To Write

    6 Qudrat 164 B.E. - Thursday, November 8, 2007 about 6:15 PM PST

I don't know what to write
I could write another Octava Rima this one about about Veterans Day,
I could write another Garlan Cinquain this one about Baha'u'llah's birthday,
I could write another Cyhydedd Hir this one about Thanksgiving,
There are so many things I could write about that I don't know what to write.

Sometime the problem isn't writers' block,
    Sometimes the problem is indecision,
Sometimes there are so many things to write about that I can't decide the subject.

However, instead of not writing at all
    I'll write about indecision.

I Wish I had Dentemp OS

    Dentemp OS

    temporary dental repair

I find that fillings always come out in the strangest places and most inconvenient times. When I went to college, they came out during class. When I worked as a waitress they came out in the middle of my shift. On dates, the fillings come out during the conversation. That is when I could have used dental first aid to replace temporarily the missing filling.

Of the three incidents, the worst place for the filling to fall out was on the date. I could not concentrate on the conversation. Finishing my food was a problem because I could only chew on one side of my mouth. When you are chewing food it is difficult to keep it on only one side of your mouth. If you do manage to chew that way you look weird and your date thinks there is something wrong with you.

The missing filling caused pain and distraction. It was difficult to concentrate on the instructors lecture. It was difficult to do my job properly. I could not focus on the conversation or my date. In addition, to the distraction it was embarrassing. I could have avoided this with temporary dental repair.

There are five important points about Dentemp OS that make it desirable. Those are

    1. A dentist developed it

    2. It is easy to use

    3. It is dental first aid

    4. It is strong

    5. It is FDA approved

    Sometimes I Wish

    3 Qudrat 164 B.E. - Tuesday, November 6, 2007 about 10:00 AM PST

Sometimes I wish writing were easier. It's not that the process itself is difficult. I have to watch grammar and spelling closely, but once I learned my weakness in that area, I know what mistakes to look for I do fairly well. The actual work of writing the story or novel that sometimes becomes a problem.

I think I'm just feeling sorry for myself and my NaNoWriMo novel. I didn't get off to a good start when it come to word count. In fact, the word count isn't where I'd like it to be. Also I'm still on chapter one. I have all the characters in the same location in interstellar space and the first encounter is over with. I still have a couple of things I want in that chapter so the the events in the next make sense in the context of the novel.

I have to figure out how to put those events in without going back and rewriting what I already have. There's no use rewriting at this point (one of my bad habits) it just takes too long and I won't get the novel completed by November 30. I'll just use another way to put those events in the first chapter.

Day Light Saving Time has Ended

    1 Qudrat 164 B.E. - Sunday, November 4, 2007 about 9:17 AM PST

Daylight savings time has ended, it's now standard time again. Today and tomorrow are going to seem extra long because the time on the clock is earlier than the time my mind and body say. It takes me two or three days to get used to the change and for my body clock to reset.

The change is time is interesting because while Las Vegas looks like it should be part of Mountain Standard Time its part of Pacific Standard Time. Arizona, which is right next door to Nevada, doesn't change from Standard Time to Daylight Time. This means that during the months of Daylight Savings Time the time in Arizona and Nevada is the same. During the months of Standard Time there is an hours difference.

This difference is noticeable if you live in Kingman, Arizona (a bedroom community of Las Vegas) and work in Nevada. I know only one person who lives in Arizona and drives to Las Vegas to work. That has to make for some interesting and dark driving this time of year.

  • NaNoWriMo has Begun

    18 'Ilm 164 B.E. - Friday, November 2, 2007 about 5:09 AM PDT

NaNoWriMo began yesterday. I begin A New Song, which is a science fiction novel. I didn't get 1,667 words written on the first day. I didn't even get half of that amount, but I started the novel.

I also added the NaNoWriMo web site to my links when I updated them early this morning. I've been up most of the night catching up on things I didn't get done because I went to bed early. I got up at 8:00 PM last night and couldn't go back to sleep. This always happens when I go to bed earlier than usual.

I'll work on the novel a little this morning. I want to have the first chapter completed either today or tomorrow. As it is I'm going to have to devote at least one day a week until November 25 to working on it.
