Writers and Bloggers Mark October 15 on your calendars

October 15 is Blog Action Day, so mark it on your calendars. I've noted the day on my planning calendar. I don't know what the theme is yet, so I don't know what approach I'm going to take. I do know that I will make at least one entry on that day in this blog. This year, I'm considering making some type of entry in each of my blogs on Blog Action Day.

A Beautiful day to write in Las Vegas

Good morning Bloggers, Writers and anyone else reading this entry. It's a beautiful day in Las Vegas. The sun is shining, there is a wisp of a cloud across the blue sky and there is no wind moving the limbs of the stone pine tree in my front yard.

I have the first load of cloths in the washer and I just heard the washing machine go into the rinse cycle. I'm on my third cup of coffee this morning and I'm in a good mood. All right, I'm normally in a good mood of a morning. After I get up and stop worrying about my financial situation, my mood changes.

Of course, to get into this hopeful and optimistic mood I have to say my morning prayers. I discovered long ago that I need to say prayers to change my mood of a morning. Happiness is a spiritual attribute, which means that prayers help to generate a good mood.

My mood affects the way I write. When I'm in an optimistic mood then I want to write more. I don't like to write when I'm depressed or unhappy; I do write in those moods, but I don't get as much written. I struggle more when my mood is dark and down, then when I'm bright and joyous.

Since my mood is good this morning, I'm going to get as much writing achieved as possible. The only way to complete a word count goal is to write; therefore, I'm going to write.

As a blogger I have learned

As a blogger, I have learned to always double check any links I put in my posts. Simply because I think I put the link in properly doesn't mean that I did. There are several reason a link may not work. One of the main reason is misspelled words. Just because I know how to spell the word doesn't mean the word is spell identically to the way the URL is spelled. In addition, there is the problem of keys sticking, with my key board that is the main problem.

Therefore, not matter what I always check the link before I log out of my blog. After all, if I put a link in my posts I want my readers to follow it; so I always check the link. Most of the time the link is fine, but I am never sure unless I check. This includes codes that I copy, which already have the links included.

Blog Action Day is Coming in October

I just received the e-mail today about Blog Action Day 2008, the e-mail actually came yesterday, but I just download the messages in that box today. The theme this year is poverty and on October 15, 2008 thousands of bloggers across the world will write about this subject. Any bloggers reading this join us on October 15 and write about poverty.

I am not sure what approach I will take on this subject. Poverty is something I have some personal experience with, so I may write about it from that perspective. However, this is a mixed genre writing blog therefore I could as easily write a poem or a short story. I do not want to pin my approach down yet because, personal experience tells me I will probably change my approach when the day come.

I can decided on an approach to a subject and then when the time comes to write about it I find myself taking a completely different approach. That is because personal and world events affect my approach to any theme or subject. I must admit though, writing an entry on the way poverty effect an individual and a family is most attractive. I have a little time to do some research on the subject and find a few website to include in the entry.

Why do I continue to struggle to write?

What is it about human being that causes us to continue to struggle when all appears hopeless? Why do I contiue to write when all around me is darkness? I am not talking about night or being without electricity. I am writing about something else entirely.

Why do I put characters on paper, one character right after another forming words, when all I can see is the hopelessness of the situation? What is it about me that will not allow me to give up and just stop writing? Sometimes I think I know the answer to those questions and at other times my reasons are not clear.

I know for sure that there is something within me that will not let me give up. I have to write. I have to write poetry. I have to write short stories. I have to write flash fiction. I have to write blog entries. I have to write about my 61 almost 62 years of experience.

There was a time when I did not write. However, once I start writing poems, journal entries, blog entries, etc. I could not stop. There is something within forcing me to write. Some people have the desire to talk and they cannot stop talking. Some people have the desire to run for a political office and the keep going until they have achieved the office. I have the desire to write and I cannot stop writing.

This morning is difficult, difficult in several ways, but I have to write. I have to write everyday. I have to write in a blog or a pen and paper journal. I have the talent. I have the will power to write when all around me appears to be falling apart. I have to put my thoughts down, without fail. I have to improve my writing skills. I have to use my creativity. It is a God given talent; I have to used and developed.

I Changed my Profile

I changed my profile, for the reason go to Poet 999 - A Butterfly Emerges from Her Cocoon and see the entry "Changing My Introduction". As you can see, in the new profile I put the themes for each of my blogger blogs. Each of the blogs has a different subject and theme. The theme for this blog is writing, specifically it is a mixed genre blog.

Since I have a specific word count goal for each day, I am only going to enter dates myself once every nineteen day. This way every word I write goes toward achieving the word count for that day. Those are my plans at this time, however, I reserve the right to change my mind on the subject of dating my entries.

My internet connection is being difficult

My internet connection is being especially difficult this afternoon. I am not sure, what the problem is, other then I have a telephone hook up. I have lost the connection several times today and it takes a few minutes to get it back. The connection problem does make blogging and working on line interesting.

When the connection does this I make sure I save every few minutes while making a blog entry. I learned this from experience. If I do not save then I loose most of my entry, when I loose an entry I have to start over again and I never write the entry the same as the first time I made it. I suppose I could write it before getting into the blog, but that would be double work and time consuming. Unfortunately, I do not have the time spend on double work.

I can edit a story without considering it double work, but making a blog entry is different. Today I got a late start anyway. I do not know why I could not get going this morning, I got up early and I took the trash out before 7:00 AM, but I just could not make myself sit down and blog. I got a lot of work done around the house. I changed the cat litter and put fresh scoopable litter in the pans, but I just could not seem to get to writing.

Now I am getting irritated at the way the connection is yo-yoing. There is no reason for me to get irritated because there is nothing I can do about the connection, but I am getting irritated anyway. I am going to have to get DSL, at least that would help with some of the connection problems and the slow down/uploading.

I am back to blogging

I am back to blogging. I took Mom to the urgent care last Sunday and they sent us to the hospital. The hospital admitted Mom and she remained in Valley until Thursday evening. She had something removed from her leg and now has a hole in her leg. A nurse comes in everyday to change the dressing.

When she they released from the hospital the doctor prescribed pain pills. When they remove the bandage, it hurts. She gets a pain pill a half hour before they remove the dressing. It helps a little. I am back to blogging. Mom is back home, but she is sleeping in the hospital bed. She wants to sleep in her own bed, but she cannot do that until after her leg is healed. Today the nurse said the wound looked good and was not infected.

Before Mom went into the hospital, I made a list of topics to blog about. So starting tomorrow, June 16, I will write about some of those topics. I am not sure yet which one I will blog about first, perhaps gas prices. All though with Mom home and feeling better gas prices do not seem as urgent as before she went in this time. Still the topics I listed are good and so I think I will write about them.

I did not stop writing all together when Mom went into the hospital. I wrote poems, but that is about all. Sometimes writing stops entirely when confronted with a crises, however lately I continue to write poems while confronting a crises.

I'm Doing it Again

I am participating in the Follow the Leader: Redux contest on writing.com again. This is the second time this year I have entered the contest. The concept of the contest is leading entries. Each participant is assigned a day to do a leading entry. The subject and them of the leading entry is up the "leader" for that day. The rest of the group responds to the leading entry.

I am using my regular writing.com blog Snow Melt for my leading and response entries in this contest. This edition of the contest begins Thursday, March 6, and ends Wednesday, March 26. My leading entry is scheduled for Monday, March 10. Since March 10 is going to be a busy day for me, I am going to be in and out of the house all day. I will compose the entry and post it at midnight Eastern Time, which is about 9:00 PM Pacific Time.

I have heard complaints about bloggers using their daily activities as their blog entries. The complaints consist of rants concerning how boring those entries are, but has anyone every considered the other side of the coin. The entries we find boring today may be the very entries that archaeologist of the future might find intriguing.

OK, I have to admit that the title Wednesday, February 13, 2008 is a boring title, which says nothing about the theme or subject of this entry. It suggests that I am writing about the events and actions in my life today. In a way it is, I am in a journal contest on writing.com. In this particular contest, one of the participants makes a leading entry and the other participants respond. The leading entry for today February 13 was title February 12, 2008 and consisted in the leader's actions of yesterday.

While I was responding to the entry, I realized that the entries about a bloggers daily life might be the very things archaeologist of the future would be looking for. Archaeologists dig through ruins looking for information about how people lived in ancient times. The archaeologists a thousand or two thousand years from now will be looking for such information as well. The blogs that we write today will be some of the places they will look at to find information on twenty-first century daily life.

The Wind is Blowing and my Connection is Yo-yoing

The wind is blowing and my Internet connection is yo-yoing, a nice rhyme, but bit of a problem since I compose my post directly into the blog. I have a telephone hook-up, not DSL, this is a problem when the wind blow, when it rains and when I'm looking at two or more web sites at the same time. The connection yo-yos most when there is wind, which is the problem tonight.

I didn't realize how windy it is out until I went to close the garage door. I heard something outside and thought a dog or cat was getting into my trash cans in the garage. I went to close the door and heard the wind. I'm glad I didn't take the trash cans out tonight, with this wind there is not telling where they or my trash would be by morning.

Writing a blog entry is a bit of a problem when the wind blows and the connection yo-yos. I get cut off at unexpected intervals. Fortunately, Blogger automatically saves drafts every few minutes, still getting disconnected is aggravating.
