Midweek Reflections on Odes

It is Wednesday. This week I am attempting to write an Ode. There are several four types of Odes: (1) English or Keatsian Ode, (2) Pindaric Ode, (3) Horatian Ode, and (4) Sapphic Ode. I am working on a English Ode and the deadline for completion is Saturday, October 1, at 9:00 PM Pacific Time.

The English (Keatsian) Ode is composed of three stanzas, with each stanza containing ten line of Iambic Pentameter. The rhyme scheme is a. b. a. b. c. d. e. c. d. e. All the stanzas have the same scheme, but each stanza has its own rhyme. I am working this ode on this week.

    Mourning Dove

    A mourning dove walks
    Across the cement driveway
    Spreads her wings to fly

I took some trash to the garage and saw a mourning dove walking across my driveway. When I opened the screen door, she flew away. I have not see or heard a mourning dove in a couple of years, but it looks like they are back for a while.

    Happy Sunday

    Beautiful morning
    A Sunday newspaper waits
    For me and coffee

A Sunday newspaper and a hot cup of coffee make a good Sunday morning. I subscribed to the newspaper and can now read the comics when I have coffee on Sunday morning.

I am looking for an online auction

I am looking for an online auction site. I want a site where the bids go up $0.01 or $0.02 at a time. The site I am looking for has to be easy to use, with the latest technological items. I have to update my technology, but it is difficult for me to get out of the house for more then a couple of hours at a time. When I go shopping, it takes me longer then two hours. Therefore, I have to go online to do almost everything.

I am looking for an online auction site that is simple and easy to use. One that explains the step by step process of bidding and paying for the item. I also want a site where I can find the item if I loose the bid. I also want a site that has promotions, free shipping, and offers cash back.

I am looking for an online auction site like dealfun.com. I want a site that has variety of technological items like cameras, and smart phones for example. I want an online auction site that offers gift cards, jewelry, rechargeable batteries, clothing items, and camera cases.

I am looking for an online auction site that is easy to use and offers a variety of items. Because it is easier for me to shop online, I want an online auction site that is easy to use.

The first day of autumn in Las Vegas

It is the first day of autumn and summer is gone. In Las Vegas, you would not know summer was gone because today was a triple digit day. It does not look like autumn here either. The leaves have not begun to change colors and are still on the trees.

The temperatures are cooling down and this may be our last triple digit day. Today I begin watching the thermostat closer and when the temperature in the house remains below 79 degrees for about a week, then I will turn the cool temperature off. However, I will not turn on the warm air until sometime in November or early December. The temperatures at night do not get cool enough to turn the heat on until then.

It is the first day of autumn in Las Vegas and across the northern hemisphere. It is time to begin getting out the winter cloths; at least this was when my Grandmother started the process of unpacking winter sweaters and coats. Grandma lived in Oklahoma so the autumn temperatures there are a little different then in Nevada.

I enjoy the autumn weather in Nevada. In fact, the only thing I miss about Oklahoma this time of year is the way the leaves change in October. Sometimes in Nevada the do not begin to change until December.

Thankful Thursday Melody in Las Vegas

    A nightingale sings
    Its melody echoing
    Morning gratitude

I took a bag of trash to the garage this morning. I heard a nightingale singing. The bird sounded like it was saying thank you to the dawn. This morning I am thankful for the songs of nightingales.

A beautiful Sunday in Las Vegas

It is Sunday. The sky is blue without any clouds, at least from my point of view. The birds are flying between the trees and there is a slight wind. I do not know the outdoor temperature, but the temperature in the house is about 80 degrees. I have it remains that cool inside all day because if it does the air conditioning will not come on.

    Kyrielle Poetry Form

To write Kyrielles you use couples, which are two-line stanzas, or quatrains, have four-line stanzas. The minimum numbers of stanzas are three for quatrains and six for couplets, with no maximum number of stanzas.

Kyrielle stanzas consist of eight syllables lines, with refrain (repeated line) at the end of each stanza. The rhyme scheme is a-a-b-refrain (b), c-c-b-refrain (b), and d-d-b-refrain (b) or a-b-a-refrain (b), c-b-c-refrain (b) and c-b-c-refrain (b).

I am working this poetry form on this week. I received this assignment on Sunday, September 11, and the deadline is Saturday, September 17. It has taken me four days to find a subject; however, I will finish it tonight and post it in my writing.com port on Friday.

Late night rain in Las Vegas

    The street is wet with
The remains of last night’s rain
    A cloud covered sky

It rained last night. There is a small puddle of water in my driveway and the patio is wet. There are still clouds covering the desert’s sapphire blue sky, so it may rain again today. I did not turn the T.V. on because there is so much work to do before I can get distracted. I will check the Las Vegas weather report online.

  • An awespacious morning in Las Vegas

I admit that it does not take much to make me happy any more. This morning I am happy because my virus diction program found no infections when it scans my computer this morning. For the past twelve months, it has found, removed, and healed over ten warnings each day; however, when it finished today it gave the message “No infection was found during the scan.”

The only difference between today and the past twelve months is that I downloaded a new browser. I suppose that could have something to do with finding no warnings. I know this browser is faster then my old one, I will continue to scan my computer for viruses and other irritations.

    Remembering September 11

    I remember
    arriving at work
and learning that the twin towers
    were struck.

    Speechless
    I watched the replay
    on the computer monitors;
    watched as a passenger plane
    struck one tower;
    watched the smoke rise
    and then the towers crumble.

    Now,
    ten years later,
I say prayers for the departed
    and a prayer for America.

  • Will it rain in Las Vegas?

    Gray clouds hide blue sky
    They promise Las Vegas rain
    The question is where

It looks like rain. Will it rain in my neighborhood? Las Vegas is so large that it can rain in one section of town and not another. If the rain does not fall at the airport, then it is not official. The cloud cover is complete, so perhaps it will rain all over Las Vegas.

Cats and Dogs in My Las Vegas neighborhood

    Under the red van
A neighbor’s cat and dog meet
    Renew their friendship

I saw a neighbor’s small brown dog, I am not sure of the breed, and yellow cat go under their red van. They park their van in the driveway across the street. Most of the cats and dogs in this neighborhood are on friendly terms.

    The First Monday in September

It is Labor Day. It is a holiday, so Mom stays home from the adult daycare center. I managed to convince her to take two of her morning pills. It should be easier to get her to take the other two pills after she eats something. Right now Mom is eating her usual bowl of dry cereal without milk. Mom does not seem to like milk on her cereal, so I put the cereal in a bowl and she eats it that way.

It is mostly cloudy this morning. I do not think it will rain; however, I need to go out and make sure I rolled my car windows up just in case I am wrong. The sky may clear as the morning advances it does that sometimes.

    Morning sky cloudy
The sun hides its smiling face
    A cool Labor Day

The beginning of a busy week

It is the first Sunday in September. It is the beginning of a busy week. Tomorrow is Labor Day, so Mom will not go to the daycare center because the center is closed. Today we ate pizza for lunch, but I am not sure what to fix Mom tomorrow.

Then the next four days, I will spend driving across town on business. My life sounds boring. I need to do something different. I need to get out of my rut. It is not impossible to write in a rut, but it is difficult. The only view I have is the view from my living room window. I need a different view I need an office.

I have a spare room, so I could set up an office in there, which I could set up as an office. However, I need to be in the main part of the house when Mom is home. Even if Mom is asleep in her bedroom, I have to remain in a room where I can hear her cries at night. I have to leave my office in the living room so that I can hear Mom in the bedroom; therefore, having an office in which I can close a door is not a good idea. My office stays in the living room. The one thing going for the spare room is that it has a nice view of the backyard.

    A Three-Day Weekend

Labor Day is Monday, September 5; so many people get three days off instead of two. Some people get four days off. In Las Vegas, most of the government offices close on Friday, so they get four days off.
