a rumble echoes
charcoal clouds conceal the sun
an afternoon storm
I heard a rumbling and looked out my living room window to
see charcoal gray clouds covering the sun. I think it is going to rain. I
listen to the noon news, the meteorologist said it might rain, but I do not
remember if he said a 30% chance of rain or a 40% chance. It is days like this
that make me happy I do not hang my wet clothes outside any more. I do not see
or hear rain yet, but I expect it to start raining any time.

Haibun-Haiku: Raindrops on concrete
lightening and thunder
raindrops falling on concrete
a refreshing sound
It rained last night. I sat in
the living room watching the lightening. It lit up the sky, like flash bulbs at
a family reunion. The thunder rumbled rolled across the Las Vegas valley like ocean waves. I listened
to the raindrops striking the cement, because it rains so little in this area, at
first I did not recognize the sound. The raindrops falling on the cement of my
driveway sounded like bacon frying in an iron skillet.

A Cloudy Day in Las Vegas
The clouds are gathering. Dark charcoal gray rain clouds
cover the sky and conceal the sun. In the distance, thunder grumbles promising
rain. It is cooler this afternoon then this morning when I went out to pick up
the Las Vegas Review Journal. Somewhere in Las Vegas , it will rain today.
I would like to see rain in my neighborhood. The only time
the oleanders and trees in my yard receive water is when it rains. I enjoy
sitting in the living room and watching the rain. My car is in the garage so I
do not have to worry about the car windows being opened or closed when it
rains.
I rolled the windows in my car up when I drove it into the
garage on Saturday. I always remember to roll my windows up when I park my car
in the garage. My problem is rolling them up when I leave the car parked in the
driveway. I do not know why I am so careful about rolling the car windows up
when the car is in the garage and not the driveway.

Did I just hear thunder?
It is a beautiful cloudy and windy day here in Las Vegas. Grayish clouds hide the blue sky. A chilly wind is blowing thought the trees. It is not a cold wind and does not require a heavy coat. When I went to my car, I wore a long sleeved blouse and long skirt. I was warm enough for the few minutes I was out there.
I did not look at the weather this morning or at noon. I do no know what the meteorologist predicted for today. Tree limbs are waving continually, so the wind is strong. The clouds are getting thicker and the sun no longer peeks through. I could have hear thunder, but that does not mean it will rain in my neighborhood.
Las Vegas covers a large area. It can rain and even flood in one section of town and not in another. I know I rolled up the windows in my car, but I suppose I should check just to make sure....
I have to close this entry now, because my mother just came home. I have to fix her something to eat and calm her down because she misses her father.

Do I hear thunder?
Gray clouds promise rain
A cool September morning
Do I hear thunder
Last night, I heard thunder and saw lightning flash. It did not rain in my Las Vegas neighborhood; however, another part of the city could have received rain. A moment ago, I heard what sounded like distant thunder, all though it could have been something else I heard.
