Haibun-Haiku: Did the meteorologist predicted rain in Las Vegas

is rain predicted
newspaper in plastic bag
no clouds in the sky

When I went out for the newspaper this morning the delivery person had wrapped it in a plastic bag, but there were no clouds in the sky. I wonder if the meteorologist predicted rain for today. I did not watch the morning news because my mother thinks the anchors are in the house rather then on television. It is much easier to focus on giving Mom her meds and getting her ready for the day instead of discussions about people she thinks are visiting us.

    Happy Sunday

    Beautiful morning
    A Sunday newspaper waits
    For me and coffee

A Sunday newspaper and a hot cup of coffee make a good Sunday morning. I subscribed to the newspaper and can now read the comics when I have coffee on Sunday morning.

    Writing Tools: Daily Newspaper

Until today, I never thought of a daily newspaper as a tool for writers; however, this morning’s paper an intriguing article that suggested a story. The article was on the religious page and it concerned nails from the Cross. Apparently, those nails are religious artifacts and are supposed to confer some type of power on the person who has them in his or possession.

I am going to read the daily paper a little more closely from now on. In addition, I am keeping notes on any articles I find that may suggest a story or poem.

The reason writers need to take a daily newspaper

I take a daily newspaper. Every morning I go out and pick the day's paper, which is lying in my driveway up. In yesterdays paper I found two articles that made me thankful I subscribe to and read a daily paper.

I live in Las Vegas, therefore I subscribe to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. On the front page of the RJ there was a story from the Washington Post. This article by Rob Stein was titled "Researchers give monkey genes from two mothers". This would make a great plot for a short story or piece of flash fiction.

The other article was in the front section of the RJ, but on page 9. John Johnson, JR. wrote this article, which was from the Las Angeles Times. The title of this article is "Planet defies physics, survives near sun" and is another good idea for a science fiction story.

A writer should subscribe to a daily newspaper because the articles in the paper give the writer's muse ideas for stories or poems. In addition, going out to pick up the morning or afternoon paper gives the writer some exercise.

I bought a Sunday Paper today

I bought a Sunday paper today. I can't remember the last time I bought one, it's been at least a year. Normally, I watch the news on T.V. or get if off the Internet, but today I went to the store and bought a paper. I got it so that we could have a T.V. guide and I could read the Sunday comics.

I missed reading the comics on Sunday. The comics during the week are no big deal, but I enjoy reading them on Sunday. I'm going to finish all my writing projects for the day, then I'm going to set down on either the couch or love seat and read the paper. I've already read to comics.

I've found myself in a rut lately and I think this will help me get out of it. I'll get a few ideas for poems or short stories. You can always depend on the Sunday paper to have some interesting stories. Stories that are much more interesting then you find in the paper the rest of the week.

Another thing that the Sunday paper has, which isn't in the other days are coupons. Today's paper has $209 worth of coupons in it. I'm looking forward to seeing what I can get some cents off on. I've missed reading the Sunday paper, I don't know why I didn't buy one before today. However, today I decided I'd just drive down to the store and get a paper.

As I'm reading the paper, I'll see what I an use as the subject of a blog entry. I think some of my entries are getting a bit boring. I could be wrong, of course, but it never hurts to have some backup subjects to write about.
