Tuesday Thoughts on Writing Accomplishments

Tuesday morning started out better than Monday. This morning when I went for my walk I felt a cool breeze caressing my bare arms. I have taken to wearing a sleeveless black dress with a Christmas design on it. A cool breeze feels good because on Monday the breezes was a little warmer. I think the cool wind energized me today because I have managed to get a couple more chapters of Scavengers edited/rewritten.

This evening I have to finish a poem that is due on the fifteenth. The poem is complete, I just have to remove some extraneous characters. When I started the poem, I did not have any idea what I was going to write about.  I found a theme when I read a news article online. I read most of the news articles online instead of an offline printed copy of a newspaper. After I finish the poem, I will edit another chapter of my novel. Once that is done I will do a couple of surveys.

Thoughtful Tuesday: It rained last night – A Poem

It rained last night in Las Vegas,
A gentle rain that didn't wake me up
    With lightning and thunder.

    It rained last night
When I went for my morning walk
I noticed the puddle of water
    Under the rental sign
Hanging from the roof of my apartment building.

    It rained last night,
    It didn't rain hard enough
To push the trash either East or West
    On Sunrise Avenue.

    It rained last night
    Clearing the air
    And refreshing the morning.

Midweek Reflection on an August Morning

    Smoke from California wildfires
    Make morning hazy
Blow across the valley from west to east

I took a thirty minute walk this morning. It is getting easier to walk around half of the block so I think I will try taking another circle either Thursday or Friday morning. If I make two circle around the block the I will have to begin brewing my coffee before I take may walk that way I can have coffee immediately when I return.

I had an interesting dream earlier this morning. In the dream I was writing Summer Olympic poems. Yesterday evening I wrote an acrostic poem called Gymnastics about the 2016 summer games.  The gymnastic programs are the only parts of the summer Olympic games I care to watch. I prefer the winter Olympic  games and watch more of those programs.

    Monday: A Poem

    It's Monday
    The humidity is approximately 26%
The temperature somewhere between 99 and 105 degrees
A sweltering day in  Las  Vegas
I just want to remain indoors
Listening to the air conditioner's hymn.

Success Saturday: At the end of a hot week in Las Vegas

The triple digit temperatures really go to me this week. They were so bad that I wrote a poem about them, I have to go back and rewrite it because I over emphasized the triple digits. I put too many lines with the words "triple digit   temperatures" without looking for other phases. I'll let the poem lay a week or so before rewriting it.

I'm not sure why the temperature affected me like it did this week. It might have had something to  to with the temperature reaching 100 degrees before noon. Usually the  temperature does not get that high until sometime after 12:00 PM, but this week it hit that mark before 11:00 AM. Of course, it is always better to have the temperature inspire then depress.    I all so finished story number 20 of 44 and now have only two more stories to write before completed the halfway mark. All in all it was a successful writing week.

    Motivational Monday: I'm Motivated Today!

I'm motivated today! This morning I went for a walk halfway around the block when I returned I accessed my checking account to see if I had enough to pay the internet bill. I didn't, but I have ten days to raise this month's payment before the cable company disconnects my social life. I have to have the payment in by July 28 or I have no social life until the bill is paid. As you can see my sense of humor is still going strong which means I'm not depressed and confident that I can somehow raise the money.

I'm motivated to write today! I've started three short stories for the 44 I've committed to write this year.  If I can finish those by the end of July I will be halfway through the stories and halfway through the year. I've did all right with the previous stories even though some of the word counts are a bit short.  I will just push on with these three stories making sure they are over 1000 words.

I'm motivated to make blog entries today. Yesterday I considered ending the entries in this blog because I've had difficulties making every-other-day posts. However, this morning I decided that wasn't a good reason to end posting. I will continue to attempt to make entries in this blog, but I might cut it down to two or three days a week. That depends on how much other writing and desk cleaning off I accomplish this week.

    Cleaning off the desk
I have a desire to see
    My desktop again.

Thankful Thursday: Counting my Blessings: A Poem

    I count my blessings
    Numbering them one by one
    One line at a time

    I know I am blessed
    Listing my gratitude helps
    Overcome the blues

I intone a prayer of thanks
    For blessings I have received
    My blues disappears

    A Good Friday Afternoon

    It's a good Friday afternoon,
    I finished a jackalope story,
I read and reviewed a political poem,
I wrote a story about being kidnapped by Gray Aliens.

    It's a good Friday afternoon,
With temperatures rising into the triple digits
And mice scurrying across the floors
    In the neighboring apartments,
I haven't see any mice yet,
But it's the temperature is sure to drive them indoors
    Where it's cool.

    Doctor's Office Art

    Saxophone, guitar,
    And piano are jamming:
    The  optometrist office.

I went to an optometrist office this morning with a friend. One of the paintings was of three musical instruments in a beautiful abstract arrangement. As I sit there looking at the picture, I could image the three playing together in an ensemble. I enjoyed going to doctors' office with art or interesting displays on their walls because it activates my imagination and encourages me to write.

    May Day Memories: A Poem

I remember May Days from my childhood
When we would dance around a Maypole,
    But I don't remember anyone
Saying we were celebrating a worker's holiday.

I remember May Days from my childhood
When Grandpa would take us to The Lake
Where we would swim, fish, and water ski
    While Grandma and Grandpa watched
Us from the boat or the dock.

Midweek Reflection on Writing Poetry and Barking Dogs

It's National Poetry Month, so far I have managed to write at least one poem a day. I have not read the poetry books I planned and I do not think I will get them read this month; all though I could be wrong about that. Since this is the first full week of April I am not sure what the rest of the month will hold.

    Poetry writing
    the neighbor's dog is barking
    interrupts contemplation

I suppose I should complain, but I am not sure what good it would do. The dog does not bark all the time. This morning I think someone was knocking at their door, which cause the dog to bark. I hope the dog woke the family up, as it did with everyone in the neighborhood except me. I woke up early today, took all my morning meds, brewed a carafe of hot coffee, and started to review or write. My day got off to a good start before the dog started barking.

Success Saturday: The first Saturday in April 2016

It's the first Saturday in April
    a day of bright sunshine
    a to celebrate of achievement.

This week I finished story seven of the forty-four stories I committed to write this year. I have thirty-seven left to write before December 31, 2016. I begin working on story eight on Thursday and completed about five hundred words. I still have over a thousand words left to write.

On the first Saturday in April
    I contemplate
all my achievements for the week.

I did a good job of writing this week. In the coming week I want to achieve more then writing. I want to clean off my computer desk and the stand by my recliner. The problem is that I get so focused on writing that the let other things go by the wayside. Therefore, next week (starting on Sunday) I designate a specific time to clean of the side stand and the desk.
