A warm winter in Las Vegas

after last night's rain
the sparrows and black birds sing
greet the morning sun

It rained last night, when I went out  to pick up the morning paper there was a puddle of water in my driveway. The air seemed chilly and damp to me, but the birds do not seem to mind. The birds are singing as it it were spring.

This winter was warmer then normal. As I look out my window into my front yard, I see green grass growing. I do not remember grass this early in the year before. The oak trees in the neighborhood did loose their leaves, but latter in the winter then normal.

wind in the pine tree
the limbs cast dancing shadows
a beautiful day

The wind is blowing, so there is a wind chill factor. I have not listened to the weather either on television or online; therefore, I have no idea what the wind chill factor is. It cannot too bad because the birds are singing and they normally do not sing if it feels very cold.

Mundane Monday: Wind chill in Las Vegas

    On a windy day
With a wind chill factor of
    Wear a heavy coat

It is cloudy and windy. If I am outside too long I need a coat. I went after food this morning. When I left the house, it was nice; it was not too cold or too hot. Therefore, I did not wear coat. When I arrive at my destination, the air felt cold when I got out of the car. A good think I left my heavy coat in the car last week.

Writing about the wind and the cold

The wind is blowing in Las Vegas. I went out to get the paper this morning and it was cold. I felt cold because of the wind chill factor. It is spring and wind gives the air a feeling of early fall. It is chilly, which means I feel cold. It is not cold, of course, but I feel cold.

I am tired of feeling chilly; I am tired of feeling cold. When the weather gets into the triple digits, I am not going to complain because this winter has been very difficult because of the chilly and cold weather. I think the way I feel has more to do with my body’s internal thermostat then anything else.

The older I get, the more the cold and chilly weather effects me. I am 64 years old, I live in Las Vegas, and the wind chill factor is getting to me. I notice the temperature more today then I did when I was a child. I know there is a story or poem in this experience because there is a story, poem, or article in every experience a writer encounters. I simply have to find an approach to the subject.

Thoughts on a Windy afternoon in Las Vegas

The wind is blowing. Charcoal gray clouds hide the blue sky and the evening sun. The wind chill factor gives me the shivers. My patio, covered by a thin out door carpet, is wet. It did not rain today. The patio dampness on the patio is the results of letting cloths drip dry out there.

I need to clean my patio off. I need to take up the carpet that is covering the cement. Perhaps I will do that this year. That carpet covered the patio when we moved in several years ago, so it needs replacing. I am not sure that I want to replace it. I am considering removing the carpet and painting the cement. I am also considering removing the carpet and leaving the cement unpainted.

In spring, I like sitting on the patio and writing poetry. It does not matter whether the cement is painted, unpainted, or covered by an outdoor carpet. Writing poetry does not require any special place, I can write it anywhere the mood strikes me. The look of the patio floor will not make much difference to the composition of a poem because word choice is important and nothing else.

Wind and Clouds in Las Vegas

    Evening clouds gather
Wind whispers through stone pine trees
    Las Vegas shivers

I felt the wind chill factor today, this means I am going to put a sweater in my car. When I left the house, it did not seem cold, but when I arrived at the doctor's office it was cold.

The Wind is blowing in Las Vegas

    The limbs of trees wave
Clouds sail across the blue sky
    The wind chill is cold

A Windy day in Las Vegas

    Wind in Las Vegas
    Carries litter across streets
    Trash collection day

    All day the wind blew
    Locals wearing long sleeved shirts
    Shiver at bus stops

Today the wind chill factor is enough to require sweaters, coasts and jackets. It's warm inside a car driving to the store, but walking across the parking lot you need something more then just a long sleeved shirt or blouse to keep you warm.

    Windy Wednesday in Las Vegas

‘Idál (Justice), 13 ‘Ilm (Knowledge), 166 BE – Wednesday, October 28, 2009 about 2:18 PM Pacific Time

It's a windy Wednesday in Las Vegas. The sun is shining and the wind chill factor reminds me of winter in Oklahoma. Pedestrians are bundled in ski jackets walking into the wind with their head down. Or walking with the wind behind them pushing them faster down the street.

The heat came on for the first time last night. The house is cold, house is cold, not as cold as a snowy day in Oklahoma, but cool enough to layer sweaters and blouses. The problem with turning the heat up to a comfortable level is the power bill.

    Las Vegas autumn
    the wind chill shivers tourist
    locals dress warmer.

    Writing the Blues

I think it must be the time of year. Maybe it's because my birthday is December 24, but I seem to be writing the blues. The day doesn't help because the sky is cloudy and the wind is blowing. There is a wind chill factor outside and it's chilly inside.

    I'm writing the blues
    inscribing joyless poems
    on winter's cold wind.

I'm also having a bit of difficulties composing this entry. It's the time of year, the wind chill, not having a car. I could find all sorts of excuses about why I'm blue. I could find all sorts of excuses for not writing. I'm not going to do either because it just doesn't help to find excuses not to do something I enjoy.

I like writing. There are certain things about winter that I do like. True I'm not crazy about the cold. I could do without the wind chill factor. However, I do enjoy the winter constellations. Unfortunately, I can't see them very well living is Las Vegas. The only stars I can see are directly above and from the looks of the could cover I'll not see any stars tonight.

Now that sounds like a good title for a poem "I'll not see any stars tonight". I think I've written myself out of the blues, for a little bit any way. Perhaps that's what I need to do when I'm feeling blue. If I just start writing then I'll write myself out of the blues.

    I've written myself
    out of the blues tonight
    autumn is now bright.

Writing on a cold Autumn Day

It finally feels like autumn. The temperatures are down, not to freezing but they are cold. Today there is a wind chill factor so it feels even colder. This morning the sky was partly cloudy and this afternoon there is a cloud cover.

This is the type of day you want to stay in the house, not that I'm going anywhere any way. I have a new battery and the car still won't start. The gas gage shows there is gas in the tank, but it's not getting a spark. Since I don't have enough money to have it towed to the mechanic it's just going to stay in my driveway. Maybe I'll go out tonight and put a blank over the hood just to keep the car warm.

I used to know a guy that did that. In winter, he would put a blanket over the hood so that it wouldn't freeze. I don't know if it worked or not, but it sounds like something to put in a story. Maybe Halloween story about a haunted car or has the haunted car theme been over used.

I may as well use my car for something because it's not going any place until I can get it running again. I car that doesn't run can't be completely useless, it must be good for something. I'll use the car to generate some ideas to write about.
