Midweek Reflections on Writing, Sleeping, and Cellphones

Weariness sets in
Eyes attempt to stay open
I yawn stretch and yawn

It's difficult to write when I'm sleepy. The problem is that if I lay then then I'll be wide awake. I'm tired because I didn't sleep well last night and then didn't eat a proper breakfast before I left the house this morning. I didn't get enough sleep because my cellphone got turned off somehow and I couldn't get it turned back on.

No comforting phone
clutched in my right hand last night
so I couldn't sleep.

That probably wasn't the reason I couldn't sleep because I normally don't sleep well at night anyway. However, the idea does make a good poem. Right now I would like to turn the computer off and take a nap; at least I would If I could fall asleep when I sit down on the couch or laid down in my bed. I could probably sleep if I turned on the television, but I don't want to do that until I've finished some of my writing projects today.

Thoughtful Thursday: An Afternoon Nap or a Real Bed

I'm tired and I cannot seem to focus long enough to write a story or a poem. I can managed blog entries, but anything else seems to elude me. I ether have to begin taking afternoon naps or get a real bed to sleep in. Right now, I am sleeping on a love-seat, which is not conducive to a good night's sleep or even a short rest.

I stopped sleeping in a bed when I became my mother's caregiver in 2007. I started sleeping on the couch and then I moved to the love-seat. I tried sleeping in a bed in December of 2012, after my mother's death, but I could not sleep because of the waking up in pain. Since sleeping on a couch caused less pain then the bed, I moved to the couch.

When I moved to this studio apartment, I moved the love-seat instead of the couch because the of the size. I have not been sleeping well lately and it is effecting my focus and my writing. I do not have writer's block because I can still make blog entries; however, that is all I have made this week. I wrote a poem last week, but this week I am having problems focusing.

I suppose the problem could be something else, like writer's constipation. If that is the case, then sleep is not going to make much difference. I think I will try something new tonight perhaps reading or saying some different prayers. I usually say the same prayers every evening without considering finding prayers that I have not said in a long time. My prayer book has numerous prayers that I have not look at in a while. I will try that tonight and see if my focus improves.

    I Am Tired: A Poem

    I am tired!

    What caused this soporific feeling?
    Why am I yawning?
    Where does this lethargy originate?

    I am tired!
Is the problem lack of sleep,
    triple digit temperature,
    or too much caffeine?

    Attempting to write

I am attempting to write this after a long and difficult afternoon. I cannot think of anything else to write. It has been a difficult afternoon and it is going to be a long difficult night. I hope to complete at least 200 words, but I am not sure that is possible.

I think this whole thing started with the walker. Mom does not want to use the walker, but she has to for safeties sake. Mom wanted to go to bed, so I convince her to use the walker and she goes to bed. Once in bed, she decided that she was hungry, but she did not want to get up to go into the breakfast room to eat. I finally convinced her to get up, go into the breakfast room (using the walker) and eat some fruit.

Mom then decided she wanted to go back to bed. We went through the issue with the walker again; she agreed to use it and went back to bed. Once she was in bed she decided she did not want to stay in bed, but she did not want to get up either, especially if she had to use the walker. She finally decided she wanted to go to sleep.

I think she is asleep now, but I am not sure. I do not know how long Mom will sleep if she is asleep. I suspect the only ones in this house who will sleep tonight are the cats. I have dishes to do and more words to write, so I am going to close this entry with a “Good night” to anyone who can sleep tonight.

The advantage of going to bed early

There is an old saying "Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise." I am no sure about the healthy, wealthy and wise part of the saying, but I do know that going to bed early causes one to get up early. Apparently, a human being can sleep only so many hours and if you go to bed early then you have to get up early because you have gotten all your sleep in for the day.

Getting up early lets you get more work done in a single day. I got up about 2:00 AM and already I have gotten a lot of work accomplished. I emptied all the cat litter pans, checked the bank accounts, and made two blog entries. I have not taken the trash to the garage, but that was because it was dark outside. I need to put new light bulbs in both the front door and garage light fixtures.

The problem with putting lights in is buying them. I have to go to the store and get a couple of long lasting light bulbs for the front porch and the garage. All right, if I made a grocery list when I go to the store I would have gotten the lights before they burned out, but I did not make a grocery list. I am a writer and I did not write a grocery list. My grandmother always made a list before she went to the store and she never forgot anything she went after.
