Afternoon and evening writing in Las Vegas

The weather person predicted triple digit temperatures for Las Vegas beginning on Tuesday. Therefore, I have to schedule any business between 9:30 AM and 1:00 PM, which means I have to write and work online in the afternoon and evening. I have to be back to the house by 1:00 PM because I do not have a working air conditioner and the thermostat in my car is not working properly.

I can get the thermostat fixed, but not until next week. I have to be careful about the car overheating and losing fluid from the overflow. I check the overflow and add water to the overflow before backing out of my driveway. I also check the radiator to make sure it has liquid in it. Unfortunately, I cannot take the car to the mechanic until after the third Wednesday in June, when I have the money to pay for the repair.

For the next week or so, I am scheduling writing, online work, and housework between 1:00 and 4:00 PM, as well as after 6:00 or 7:00 PM. Mom returns from the daycare center about 4:30 PM, she usually eats something, takes her medication and goes to bed.

My schedule is tight. I expect my schedule to remain tight until I catch up. I am behind, but then I am always behind on something. Eventually, I will catch up.

    Evening writing

    Evening writing seems more difficult
    as the days get longer,
instead of being in doors writing
I want to be out doors playing.

As I watch the stone pine limbs
    blowing in the evening breeze
I want to get in my car and drive somewhere,
go out of the city and wait for darkness
so that I can look at the stars
    and dream of other worlds
where the light pollution doesn't interfere
    with star gazing.

So I walk to the front door,
    pick up my car keys
    and head for the car,
    but then I remember
    I'm waiting for a part,
    I'm waiting for a switch
    to fix my tail lights;
I have turn signals and break lights
so I can drive my car during the daylight hours,
    but without taillights
    I can't drive at night.

    I'm stuck at home
    until the part comes in
    and the taillights are fixed.

    I’m waiting for a part

I spent most of the day yesterday at the mechanics. The problem with my taillight and dash lights is a switch, so I'm waiting for a part to get the lights fixed. I have brake lights and turn signals, so I can drive in the day time, but I can't drive at night. I'm going to have to wait until the part comes in and the car is fixed before I can drive after dark.

All right, I don't drive a lot after dark, so normally this isn't a problem. Anything I have to do after dark is going to have to wait or I'm going to have to take a bus or call Paratransit. I'm not going anyplace after dark if I can't find another way home then the bus or Paratransit.

Maybe I can write a poem or story about this experience. I'm a writer and can use my personal experiences in poems or stories. Most writers, even if they don't admit it use some of their personal experiences in their work.

Writing on the First Wednesday in 2009

This is the first Wednesday in 2009. The first hump day of the year and the first full week of the New Year is half over. I am struggling to make my new word count goal and unclutter the house at the same time. In the past six days, I have managed to make the daily word count goal three days. So far I have a 50% goal achievement rate.

I haven't gone back to my part time job yet this year. I'm going to a new location, which has not been assigned yet. I have one small check in my purse, which I have to deposit today. I have half a tank of gas and need to stop at a full service station to have the fluids checked under the hood. The only thing I can't check and fill on the car is the transmission fluid and that's the one I want to have checked, but the station I go to check all of them.

I think I have enough coffee to last the rest of the month. I writer without coffee to drink in the morning has no reason to stop composing a piece and reread what she has written. All right, maybe that isn't true, but writing and coffee seem to go together. Especially since I haven't smoked in over thirty years.

Have a Happy Wednesday today and the rest of the year.

I no longer have a working car

I think I've posted in this blog before about my car. It's sitting in my driveway not working. I have put over $200.00 into it this year and I can't afford to put anymore. I don't think I could afford to put that much in it, but I did. Anyway, I have decided to take all my stuff out of the car and donate it to a worthy cause.

This means that we will be without a car for sometime to come. I'm going to have to find a car that I can afford to buy without high payments, which means I'm going to be without a car for a long time. This of course, does save on gas since I won't have a car I won't have to buy gas. All right, my sense of humor is borderline. I have a good excuse though, I have been out socially since the car went out last month. Perhaps longer then that since the price of gas prevented us (my mother and myself) from going a lot of places we used to go.

As soon as I get the car cleaned out and remember where I filed the title (all right so my filing system is creative) I will call one of the groups that takes donations and ask them to come get the car. I have one more tow on my AAA and I'm not going to use any more towes for this car. The problem is the water pump and the timing belt. If the engine isn't damaged then it may be fixable. If the engine is damaged who know. It's a four cylinder engine so who know whether it worth it or not.

One thing about not having the car fixed, I'll have a lot more time to write and work on line. I suppose every situation has its good and bad points. Fortunately, both my mother and I are qualified for Paratransit. The people I work for will pay for my ride to work., so that does help a bit.

I am celebrating my writing.com birthday this month

I joined writing.com on October 31, 2002. This year I am celebrating my sixth year as a member of this online writing community. The thing I like best about writing.com is receiving reviews of my creative effort. I also review the writing of other members. Reviewing and receiving reviews helps me to improve my writing.

Since joining writing.com I have expanded my creative efforts from poetry to stories. I am doing some reviewing on writing.com right now. I just paused to make an entry in this blog. Today was a strange day, this morning I was ill and slept for about an hour and a half. I am feeling better now, but because of the nap, I am behind on today's writing.

This week I am attempting to work out a time schedule. Tomorrow I go back to work and I will be walking since I do not have a car. My car is in the shop and I have no idea when I am going to get it back. I am looking forward to getting my car back, hopefully before Halloween because I do not intend to give out candy. If I have the car, we can go out somewhere until after the Trick or Treating is finished. All though, I probably should stay home and turn the lights off.

    Cooler Weather in the Morning

This morning when I went out to check the water in the radiator the air was chilly. I almost went back inside the house to get a sweater. I didn't go back in, instead I popped the hood on the car and removed the radiator cap. There was no water in the radiator so I put water in. I'm going to have to check the water level again in the morning.

It's becoming a morning ritual. I go out around dawn and pop the hood on the car. Then I remove the cap from the radiator, check the water level and add water. Sometimes I don't have to add water, those days I add coolant. I need a new water pump. Since I can't afford a new or late model car, I have to have this one fixed.

Right now I check the water level in the radiator every morning and every afternoon when I get off work. Tomorrow, I have a dental appointment so I'll check the water level after I get out of the dentist. My appointment is at 1:00 PM, but I'm going directly to the dentist office after I get off work. I have water for the radiator in the car, so adding it isn't a problem. Fortunately, I don't have to drive very far from work to the dentist office and then home.

I got my car fixed today

I got my car fixed today, at least the immediate problem. I still have other work to have done on it, but I have the problem with the radiator and hoses taken care of. I realized yesterday when I walked home from work, that I can't walk the distance I could when I was 16 years old.

I have a 1991 Toyota Camry and I'm going to have to take care of it because I can't afford a newer car. So the next thing to do is to get a spare, have the oil, stuff changed and have a tune-up. All that cost money; although once I have some more work done on it I might be able to get a title loan.

I have a new radiator, new hoses and a clean car. The mechanic had the car washed. I think I'll find my title, have the car washed again next month and see if I can get a little loan on it. I'm not sure that will occur. I've tried before to no avail, but it's worth a try again. I need to get more money coming into the house.

No matter how much I want t give up when I'm depressed, I know I'm not going to give up. Right now I'm weary and on the verge of tears. The tears aren't going to do any good. The weariness will go away eventually. I just have to keep plugging away and keep writing on.
