Midweek Reflection on Writing Poetry and Barking Dogs

It's National Poetry Month, so far I have managed to write at least one poem a day. I have not read the poetry books I planned and I do not think I will get them read this month; all though I could be wrong about that. Since this is the first full week of April I am not sure what the rest of the month will hold.

I suppose I should complain, but I am not sure what good it would do. The dog does not bark all the time. This morning I think someone was knocking at their door, which cause the dog to bark. I hope the dog woke the family up, as it did with everyone in the neighborhood except me. I woke up early today, took all my morning meds, brewed a carafe of hot coffee, and started to review or write. My day got off to a good start before the dog started barking.

Success Saturday: The First Saturday in April

It is the first Saturday in April. It has been a successful week of housework procrastination. I did get the trash taken out everyday, at least I think I took it out everyday because it has not piled up in my apartment. I kept the dishes washed on a regular basis, but that is because I do not have very many dishes and if I don't wash them every day I don't have anything to eat out of or with. All right, so much for my weird sense of humor this beautiful Saturday morning or is it afternoon.

This week I worked the primary election polls on Tuesday, April 7. It was interesting and fun, but the turn out was not all that great since it was a local election for mayor and some council people. There will be no general election this year because the winners received the majority (over 50%) of the votes. This means that I will not be working the polls until next year, which is a national election. The turnout in 2016 should be much better then this year because national elections always draw a bigger crowd of voters.

This week I earned more money from one of the survey groups. This makes three times in three weeks I have transferred money from one of my survey accounts to my bank account. This is good because it keeps me from stressing when I have to purchase nonfood items or pay for a prescription. I still have to worry about the power bill and the internet bill, but the money from working the polls will take care of one of those. I just have to figure out where the rest of the money is coming from.

This week I wrote a great deal. In fact I managed to make my word count goal and write some poem. I still have to deal with housework because I cannot afford a maid. If I could afford a maid I would hire one to clean the bathroom and mop the floor once a week. Since I am the only one doing that those items are lucky to get done once every two weeks. I am attempting something new with the house work this week, I am blocking out time for it on a schedule. Today was the first day I did that and I am not going to write how well I am doing until next Saturday.

Painting pictures in stanzas and lines;
Remembering my favorite childhood rhymes;

Two week left in March 2013

Two more weeks in March 2013 and then National Poetry Month begins. Thirty days of celebrating and writing poetry. It has been a while since I attempted to write a poem everyday, I still write poem and submit them to contests; however, it is not a daily occurrence. I think the best way to celebrate National Poetry Month is to write a poem everyday and post it in this blog.

Mundane Monday: April wind in Las Vegas

March is usually associated with wind, but this year April began with high winds. The wind began blowing either Friday, Mach 30, or Saturday, March 31, it is still blowing all though not as hard as it was two or three days ago. The wind reached about 40 miles per hour in some sections of Las Vegas.

I remember hearing the wind Saturday evening. It sounded strong and it carried all sorts of noises. I heard the wind blowing my patio door open and closed. I also heard music, somewhere there was a party going on and the wind carried the party noises all over the neighborhood. The wind blew so hard that I though it would take out the pine tree. I felt relived the next morning to find the pine tree, minus a few branches, still standing.

The wind is not blowing as hard as is it was, but it is still moving the branches of trees and scattering trash across everyone’s yards. I looked out the kitchen window earlier and saw a plastic trash bag snagged in one of the oleanders. I will have to get it out of the limbs, but I am not sure how. It is higher then I can reach, so I will have to use the latter or find something to hook it. I am not looking forward to getting up on the latter, at least not while my right leg is still bandaged.

I wrote a haiku everyday in April

A haiku a day
Inhale exhale and then write
Keep your eyes open

April was national poetry month, so I wrote a haiku everyday. Sometimes it was difficult and sometimes easy. I now have thirty April haiku waiting for me to post. I haven't counted how many poems I wrote besides the haiku, I know I wrote more the forty poems in April.

Have fun and write a-poem-a-day in April. This is a good way to begin writing poems if you have never written on. If you are an experienced poet, then this is a good way to challenge your muse and practice your art. This year an ebook will be published containing 50 poems written in National Poetry Month.
