Sundry Sunday: A Cafe Mocha Morning

It's a cafe mocha morning,
the sun is shining,
the rooster is crowing,
and the Metro officers have made the morning drive
up Sunrise Avenue.

It's a cafe mocha morning,
hot coffee
with rich chocolate Oveltine©
and consumed with Twenkies©
for breakfast.

It's a cafe mocha morning,
time to relax,
to intone prayers of gratitude,
to ask forgiveness,
to forgive,
and to smile
at everyone walking past
my open front door.

Sundry Sunday: A Beautiful Sunday Morning in Las Vegas

It is the third of five Sunday's in August. It is a beautiful and cool Sunday morning here in Las Vegas with the temperature creeping from 79 or 80 degrees toward a predicted 106 degrees for the afternoon. I still have the door open so that the cool morning air can air out my studio apartment. I know I will have to close the door soon and turn on the air conditioner, but for the time being I will enjoy looking out at the beautiful clear blue sky and the deep shadows cast over the concrete from the bright morning sun.

    beautiful morning
the pine tree across the street
    casts long dark shadow

On this beautiful Sunday morning, I made cafe mocha using rich chocolate flavor Ovaltine©. T his is my favorite way to make cafe mocha at  home, which is  the only place I drink it  anymore. Why should I go out to have my favorite coffee flavor when I can make it at home with my favorite coffee and Ovaltine©? When  I go out to a coffee shop or a restaurant I order raspberry ice tea or some type of flavored hot tea that I do not keep at home.

    beautiful morning
a rooster crowed at first light
    announcing Sunday

On the third Sunday in August writing a haibun haiku is a good exercise to start off Sunday writing. I think I am composing this poem-prose properly, but I should research it a little more before I explain exactly what it is in another entry. I know that this type of exercise relaxes me and helps me focus on everything I have to do today.

Monday Matters: Wake Up and Write

It is Monday morning in Las Vegas. I am attempting to wake up and write, which is difficult since I did not get to my love seat (I do not sleep on a bed) until 1:30 or 2:00 am. I woke up about 6:00 am and managed to say my morning prayer and take my first medication without difficulty. I turned on the computer, checked the local temperature on-line, and then opened the door to look outside.

    I opened the door
    inhaled the cool morning air,
I can't say the fresh air
because I live in a city and,
    as everyone knows
    city air is not fit
    for human consumption

All right, now that I have written my depressing poem for the day and finished my first cup of cafe mocha made with "rich chocolate" Ovaltine©, I am ready to begin writing and reviewing. I will make myself another cup of cafe mocha, warm up the chicken I cooked yesterday, and fix myself a celery salad for breakfast or brunch whichever I decided is a better term for my first Monday meal.

I enjoyed going to the grocery store this morning

    Grocery shopping
used to be a painful chore,
    but not anymore.

I went to the grocery store this morning and, to my surprise, enjoyed the experience. Normally, it's not much fun and walking all over the store looking for stuff is painful. This morning was different and I'm not sure why. I didn't get what I went in for because they were out of fruitcake; however, that's all right because I probably didn't need a fruitcake anyway.

    I didn't get eggs,
    I bought hot chocolate mix
    for cafe mocha.

I now have everything I need for my New Year's Day dinner. When I went to the store last week, I bought a pound of whole bean Kona coffee and today I purchase two containers of hot chocolate mix so now I can have cafe mocha on New Year's Day.

    Hot cafe mocha
drives away the New Year's chill
    warms body and soul.

    Tomorrow is Valentines’ Day

It’s that time of year again,
when couples are giving each other
    flowers and chocolate
    in heart shaped boxes.

    I’m single
so the only one to buy me flowers
    or chocolate
    is myself.

I have to go out tomorrow to pick up some Band-Aids and coffee. So I may as well buy myself some chocolate. I’m not going to get myself flowers simply because I prefer chocolate. I prefer chocolate over almost anything else, with the exception of coffee. In fact, my favorite coffee drink is café mocha.

I like café mocha so much that I keep instant hot chocolate mix at home so that I can have café mocha whenever I want without leaving the house or going to a special coffee shop. I should buy some more hot chocolate mix tomorrow when I buy the coffee. That way I will not run out of either coffee or chocolate.

Since tomorrow is Valentines’ Day and I’m single, I will need several cups of café mocha to get through the day. Being single on Valentines’ Day is interesting, I almost said not fun, but it can be fun if I approach the day with the proper attitude. A cup of hot café mocha will help improve my attitude about Valentines’ Day.
