A Windy Weekend in Las Vegas

Wind sings through the trees
Rocking baby birds to sleep
Will the cradle fall

Last night the wind blew so hard, it sounded as if it were singing through the trees. There is only one tree in my yard and there is one tree in the neighbor’s yard. The wind blew the tree limbs so hard that they waved continually. I heard cans blowing down the street. The wind produced a lot of noise in the neighborhood.

The wind cooled the city off and I am thankful for this because my air conditioner is not working properly. The only thing about the unit that works is the fan and it runs all the time. At least the fan stirs the air and keeps the house from being so hot.

A New Phase in my Life begins this week

On Wednesday, my Mother begins attending adult daycare. A new phase of my life begins. I will have some free time five days a week. For now, she will be going at 9:30 AM and coming home at 4:00 PM. If she takes those hours well, I may see if I can get her up there at 7:30 AM, but at this time, that is too early to get her up and dressed.

I am not sure how Mom is going to take the daycare center. Mom has Alzheimer’s disease and she gets upset when she has to leave the house. However, it is good for her to get out of the house. The daycare center has activities in which she can participate. There are other people for her to interact with; she will like it once she gets into the routine of attending each day.

I realize Mom will be upset with me for the first few days. Mom used to enjoy leaving the house everyday, but for the past few months, she has gotten into the routine of staying home. When she does get out of the house, she does not want to go into any stores. At the daycare, there are people and activities; the caregivers are experienced in getting her to interact with others.

    Birds, birds, and more birds

For the past four or five days, birds have been flying around the neighborhood. Every time I look out the living room window, I see birds flying past, birds flying from tree to tree or from one side of the street to another. This morning the wind was so strong that it disturbed the flight of one bird.

I saw the bird flying west, but the winds blow it backwards a few wing strokes. So the bird returned to the neighbors oak tree. After a few minutes, the wind eased and the birds were flying through the neighborhood again. They continued to fly until the rain began.

It rained hard for about five to ten minutes and then it stopped. The birds did not fly while it was raining; however, after the rain stopped they began flying again. No only have they been flying, but they have been singing as well. I have never heard so many happy birds in my life.

    Birds, birds, and more bird
All day long, they fly and sing
    The birds are happy

    My New Pedestal Bathroom sink

The saying goes “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” My new bathroom sink is beautiful. I leave the bathroom door open when the room is not in use because every time I walk past I stop and admire my new sink.

    Its white porcelain
    Glistens in the morning light
    No dripping facet

    I am posting again

Life is not back to normal, but under the circumstances, my life is calming down. I am getting back to posting at least every other day. My mother is out of the hospital and she is taking a nap right now. For lunch today, she had blueberry bagel with peanut butter and slices cheese. She seems to be doing all right; she is in her own home and happy. I have a lot to catch up; therefore, I am going to post this and move on to something else.

    Friday at last

    Las Vegas warms up
    The days are growing longer
    At last it’s Friday

The first week in May is almost over. My mother is in a rehabilitation hospital, where she has two therapists, every day physical and speech therapist work with her. Mom is getting more exercise, all though I am not sure that her memory is improving.

It is warming up in Las Vegas. Yesterday the temperature in the house rose to 83 degrees. I have the thermostat set at 85, but I think I may have to lower it to 83 because it seemed a little warm in the house yesterday evening. I would prefer to hold that decision until Mom comes home.

Mom is extremely sensitive to the cold and I do not know if she will get cold with the air on. I would prefer to turn the thermostat down to 79 or 80 degrees, but feels those temperatures are too cold for her, so I have to keep the temperatures up so that Mom does not get cold. Since I am not sure when the doctor will release Mom, I will keep the thermostat set where it is because I do not want to get used to a cooler temperature when I have to turn it up later.

    The house is silent

My mother, who is 90 years old, is in the hospital. The house is silent, when I look at the couch Mom is not setting there. When Mom is home, the television is on all the time, but I do not turn it on when I am alone and working at the computer.

This morning I went to visit Mom. She was upset because she has an IV in her arm and she wanted it removed. We cannot remove the IV because the doctor wants to rehydrate Mom. Mom does not want to drink water; it is difficult to get her to drink any water with her meds or any other time. When she comes home, I am going to give her flavored water to see if she likes that better. I have also arranged for her to spend some time at an adult daycare center; that should help.

The house is silent. When Mom is home, she is always talking, crying or laughing. Mom does laugh sometimes, not often enough though. I miss Mom. I miss her asking for a peanut butter sandwich. I miss her asking for a cup of coffee, I wish she asked for water the way she ask for coffee.

    Five months into 2011

It is five months in to 2011 and I am not sure how things are going in my life. I still stress out over almost everything; however, I am not saying prayers when I stress and that helps dissipate the stress.

I did not get as much writing accomplished in April, as I wanted. I did not make a blog entry every day, which added to the stress. For me, the only actions that alleviate the stress are prayer and writing. When I pray or write I cannot worry when I focus my thoughts on positive actions. Therefore, the only way for me to keep from worrying is to write and pray.

I suspect there are other actions that will alleviate or refocus the stress and worry. I simply have to look for them. When I find a stress relieving action, I will make an entry in one of my blogs.
