Sunday Writing Speculations: Overcoming Writer's Block - A Poem

Three days into the New Year
with new goals chosen
to overcome Writer Block fears.

What will the coming
days, weeks, and months bring?

Will I accomplish everything
that I have set out
to write?

All I can do
is put one letter after another,
building words,
phrases,
sentences,
and paragraphs.

If I keep writing on
then I don't have to worry
about Writer's Block.

Tuesday's Tip: Lack of Focus Causes Writer's Block

Don't look at the big picture
when you have a dozen things to write
because lack of focuses cause writer's block.

Writing one word at a time completes a sentence. Writing one sentenced at a time completes a paragraph. Writing one paragraph at a time completes a page. Focusing on one thing at time overcomes writer's block.

    Writer's block encourages procrastination,
which rises the level of fear
    and anxiety.

If you tell yourself "I don't know what to write" then you will put off writing something. Just sit down and begin to write. Open a document and begin typing something. Describe the sound of the dog you hear barking across the street. Describe the weird noise you hear the garbage disposal make. Describe the feel of the air on a cool autumn morning. Once you begin writing then you will write something and whatever your write can bed edited into a story or a poem.

Tuesday Morning Thoughts: There is Something about Mondays

    There's something about Mondays
    that make writing difficult,
    but not impossible.

I didn't make my word count goal yesterday, in fact, I fell short by 848 words. As I look back over the day, I know part or most of the reason was worry. True, I had people in the house all morning and it's difficult to write when you have company.

I also went to the grocery store on Monday afternoon to pick up my LEVOTHROXINE prescription, which was faxed to the doctor over a week ago. I had to call my doctor's office myself yesterday morning to find out  the problem. The office fax it "again" and I picked up the filled prescription in the afternoon.

    I'm less worried today
    and not as tired,
    was weariness
    and worry the cause
    of writer's block.

Did being off the prescription for six or seven days cause the excess worry and weariness? I know that it caused to be hungrier then normal. I took the pill this morning at 5:10, so now I can fix me something to eat. I also think I'll set the alarm back to 4:00 am, so that I can take the table when the alarm goes off and then be able to eat about 5:00 or 6:00 instead of having to wait  until 6:00 or 7:00 am.

    Writing poetry and Writer’s Block

    Writing poetry
    Line by line composing
    Daily happiness

I realized last night that writing poetry makes me happy. I enjoy working with forms. The problem is that I need the information about the form in front while I am writing the poem. I decided the best way for me to remember the forms pattern is to have the explanation in front of me, so I printed off a list of the forms I am using this week.

Sometimes I can sit down and write without a form; however, when I am stressed or confronting writer’s block, I use form poems to keep me going. A form helps me focus while I am looking for the words. I do not like giving into writer’s block because it stifles creativity. I think stress encourages writer’s block, so when I am under a great deal of stress I like to use form to overcome the difficulty I have writing.

Working within the forms pattern encourages creativity. Once the process has begun, there is no stopping the poem. After the poem is completed them rewriting can start and during this process I can chose to keep the pattern or discard it. The final look of the poem depends on choosing the right words among other things.

    Can Writer's Block be prevented?

Can writer's block be prevented? It sounds like I am talking about a disease, perhaps it is a disease. A disease that affects authors preventing them from practicing their art. If writer's block is a disease then an author should be able to identify the symptoms of the disease. Once the symptoms are identified and the disease diagnosed, then the writer should be able to find a prescription to cure the disease.

I have been afflicted with this disease several times over the past few years. For me, an attack of writer's block begins like this. I turn on the computer, load a blank document into the word processing program, and then sit their staring at a pure white page. I sit there with my hands on the keyboard waiting for my brain to direct my fingers to type a word, sentence, or paragraph. Nothing happens, so I get up, go pour myself a cup of coffee and come back to the computer.

I sit sipping my coffee and staring at the screen. still nothing happens, not even a coffee haiku. I am a coffee drinker. I can write a coffee haiku in my sleep, except when afflicted by the disease of writer's block. Is there a way to prevent and even cure writer's block?
