Sunday Speculations: Nineteen Days and Counting

There are nineteen day left in winter. This year the vernal equinox occurs on Friday, March 20. Is this arctic weather the last gasp of winter? Are warm spring temperatures coming soon? I do not know, but I hope so. I am tired of being cold. I know that I have complained in the past about the heat and the power bills. I may complain about them again at some future date, however, right now I am tired of being cold.

Perhaps the cold just got to me worse this year because this is the first full winter I spent in this studio apartment. Maybe the problem is that I am living alone and I do not like living alone. The problem with being by myself is that I do not have anyone complain to except myself. I know that it does no good to complain or rant about the weather. The weather will be what it is no matter what I think about it or how much I complain.

My mother used to say it did no good to complain about the weather because complaining did not change the weather or the temperature. Mom was right! Also complaining just seems to make things worse. The more I complain about the temperature the colder I feel. I complain. I check the temperature. I find out that it is not as cold as I thought. Therefore, complaining only makes me notice the cold more and I think it is colder then the actual temperature.

    Tuesday Research: Spring Equinox

    Northern hemisphere
    Day and night are equal
    Vernal equinox

It is spring; despite the fact that it feels like winter here in Las Vegas, it is spring. Today, March 20, 2012, at 1:14 AM Eastern Daylight Time the sun passed directly over the equator. At that moment the vernal equinox occurred.

    Thoughts about Spring

The sun crosses the vernal equinox occurs on March 20 about 23:21 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) this year. That is approximately eighteen or nineteen days from now. At first glance, that seems like a long time, but it is not. The time will pass quickly; we will wonder where March went and begin worrying about April 15.

Spring is a wonderful time. It is my favorite season. I look forward to hearing the newly hatched birds chirping for their dinner. I look forward to the warmer days and turning off the heat. I look forward to the beautiful flowers and the leaves sprouting on the trees. I look forward to getting out of the house and sitting on my patio.

On the first day of spring, Mom and I usually go out to eat. I am not sure about going out to eat this year. Mom has Alzheimer’s disease and it is difficult to get her to leave the house. Mom does not want to go out anymore and I cannot leave her at home alone, so she goes to the store with me. Mom goes with me, but she gets angry which is the reason I am not sure about taking her out to eat on the first day of spring.

    The Arrival of Spring

Spring is almost here, in a few days, the sun will cross the vernal equinox and spring will arrive. Days are growing longer, temperatures are rising, and there are green plants growing in my yard. All right, the green plants in my yard are weeds.

I have difficulty growing anything except weeds, even the flowering plants in my yard are weeds. We call the flowering plants oleanders and they are weeds. Since I can't get rid of the weeds, I'll write about them.

    Oleanders bloom
    Spreading their pollen abroad
    Echoing a sneeze

The last full month of winter

February is almost over. Today is the 28th, the last day of the month, which means winter is almost over. February is the last full month of winter. This February has been especially difficult for everyone across the county.

Parts of the country have experienced snowstorms, blizzards lasting days and weeks at a time. Other sections have experienced rain lasting for a week or more and mud slides. Canceled flights and stranded passengers stranded in one section of the country or another. In other countries, there have been earthquakes, snowstorms and other natural phenomenon.

January did not start out difficult, but it ended that way. February began difficult and remained difficult. The first two months of 2010, have been stressful for the entire planet. Tomorrow is the first day of March, the only thing we can be sure of in March is that the sun will cross the vernal equinox and spring begins.

We do not know what type of weather we will have in March because, all though we can predict the weather, we cannot control it. We cannot control any natural phenomenon whether it be weather, earthquake, or Tsunami. We can prepare for these phenomenon, but we cannot control them. The only thing that any human being can control is her or his reactions and emotions.

Humanity, even in this modern age, is at the mercy of the forces of nature and nature has no mercy. God is merciful. Human beings have the potential for mercy because we have a spirit, a soul, but nature simply follows natural laws put into play when the universe began. Therefore, let us say good-bye to February 2010 and pray for our fellow human beings.

    Spring is for Poets

On Friday, March 20, at 11:44 Universal Time, the sun crosses the vernal equinox and spring begins. Spring is the season for poets and lovers, it is the time of new births. Spring is nature's New Year when flowers bloom, baby birds hatch and bees make honey.

Spring is a time for fresh starts and new adventures. Spring is the time when this writer celebrates a New Year. I make new goals, what many call resolutions, but resolutions are just goals one has not yet begun to achieve. I refer to my New Year's Resolutions as goals and this encourages me to pursue them.
