Website Wednesday: My favorite grammar blog

This morning I logged into writing.com to check my inbox and respond to a couple of blog prompts, I found that one of the prompts ask about my favorite non-writing.com blog. I had to think about this for a while because I have two favorite blogs that fit this criteria. After giving the prompt several minutes of thought, I decided I had two favorite blogs. One of the blogs focuses on spiritual concepts while the other focuses on grammar.

The Anarchist's Guide to Grammarr is the one I will focus on today.  I like this blog because the posts keep my attention. No matter how many words an entry contains I can focus on reading without getting bored. The latest entry is dated Friday, March 11, 2016 and titled American-English – The Official Guide. The theme of this entry is spelling, it seems someone broke into the blog entries and screwed up the spelling.

I got hooked on this blog several years ago when I did an online search for mullygrub, a word my Grandfather used. The date of this entry is Monday, September 24, 2012. I looked up the word because my mother had begun using it, so I wanted to find out what it meant. I like this word. It is a good word and not just because my Grandfather used it. It is a word I can use in a poem or a story, true when I edit the story I might replace it with another, but it will remain until someone else proofreads the story. Then suggest a word that I might like better.

    Wednesday Word: Mullygrub

Mullygrub was a word Grandpa Frank used when we (his grandchildren) were gripping, negative, or depressed. At these times, Grandpa said "Stop your mullygrubbing around!" It took me a while to figure out the spelling so that I could research the word on-line. I discovered a 2012 entry in The Anarchist's Guide to Grammar about this word.

According to the Monday, September 24, 2012 entry For All You Mullygrubbers! Mullygrubber describes someone who is negative, depressed (moody), and belly-aches (bitches), but it has an international reputation, at least in Australia, where it is the name of a cricket play. Mullygrubber comes from the word mully (muley), which has to do with the actions of a hornless cow.

Mullygrub is a good description of my mood for the last few days. I did not notice how negative I was until I decided to stop belly-aching (gripping) for seven days. I started the no gripping project on Monday and on Tuesday I had to start over. Today begins my second attempt at overcoming my mullygrubbing attitude for at least seven days.

I encourage everyone to click on the links above to check out this marvelous and descriptive word. This is a word that should be in everyone's vocabulary. It is a word that needs to be used because it describes a specific mood in one word.

Midweek Reflections: Can a person get too tired to write?

I'm tired, weary, and worn out, but am I too tired to write? Can I get too  tired to write? I'm not sure. I know I can get  too tired  to  think; however, sometimes I don't need to think  to write. If I'm doing a free write, I don't have to think I just have to write.

A free write is used to come up with ideas or to discover my mind's, or rather my subconscious, hidden fears. To do this I don't need to think and usually I don't want to think because thinking interferes with the flow of this type of writing.

A free write is usually a first draft, so I don't have to worry about grammar or spelling (all though I like to spell the words as accurately as possible). I have to admit that  sometimes my spelling and grammar can be atrocious or creative depending on your point of view. The problem with creative spelling is that when I'm rereading the item, I wonder what word I intended.

This afternoon, I'm tired and my back hurts. I haven't accomplished as much around  the house or on my writing project as I'd like. I do have a trash bag of stuff to carry to the garage after the garbage trucked have picked up the trash. I also finished packing the cups,  cutlery, and dishes I want to take with me, but I have to finish the living room. I also need to check some of the stuff in  the dining room so that I don't forget anything when I'm ready to move.

Right now, I'd like to go to sleep and I don't have time to do that. If I sit or lay down on  the couch for a nap then I'll sleep too long and won't get anything else accomplished today. I can't lay down, so I think I'll go take a shower and that might wake me up. Since the house is chilly, and I don't intend to turn the heat up, I should wake up fairly quickly.
