Tuesday Writing Ideas: Ten Memories of Easter

Easter comes early this year. Easter is Sunday, March 27, and Good Friday is Friday, March 25. These dates have brought to mind the way we celebrated Easter when I was a child. Every year the city of Blackwell (at least I think it was the city) would sponsor an Easter Egg Hunt on the Saturday before Easter. The hunt would take place at the air port, which was located across the road from my Grandparent's house.

Sunday Speculations: A Windy Easter Sunday in Las Vegas

    The wind blows litter
    along Sunrise Avenue
    pine tree boughs waving.

It is windy. There is not much more to say about the weather today. The wind is blowing hard enough to carry litter down the street. I can hear empty soda or beer cans blowing in the gutter. When I look out the door, I can see pieces of paper blowing east along Sunrise Avenue. Every once it a while a gust of wind picks up large piece of paper and lifts it in the air. The sparrows are flowing low because the wind is strong enough to blow them off course if the raise too high. The pigeons are walking, but then the pigeons always walk looking for bits of food in the gutter, in the street, and on the side walk.

    Wind and broken clouds
    birds singing while children play
    on Easter Sunday.

Palm Sunday and Chocolate Easter Bunnies

I just realized today is Palm Sunday. My grandparents, with my siblings and myself in tow, always went to spiritual services on Palm Sunday. We would attend church and go to Sunday school, after which we would go home. I am attempting to remember if Grandma fixed anything special on Palm Sunday, but I cannot remember anything except Grandma's usual Sunday dinner. I know she always fixed something special on Easter Sunday; however, I think she just fixed her usual fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and gravy on Palm Sunday.

Next week is Easter Sunday, so I have to purchase a chocolate Easter bunny this week. I do not celebrate Easter; however, every year on Easter Sunday I eat a chocolate bunny. When Mom was alive we both ate chocolate bunnies. Every year, Mom wanted a chocolate bunny on Easter Sunday. I would make coffee and then we would eat our bunnies  while we watched television. I am going to continue the chocolate bunny tradition for the rest of my life.

A sweet chocolate treat on Easter Sunday

    Solid chocolate
    A sweet Easter Sunday treat
    Eat the bunny’s ears

A chocolate lover always eats the chocolate Easter bunny’s ears first. The reason for this is that there is more chocolate in the ears. That makes sense to me.

    Happy Easter

    Easter 2011 and Chocolate Bunnies

This year Easter Sunday is April 24; this gives me time to buy two chocolate Easter Bunnies. Every year Mom and I eat a chocolate bunny on Easter Sunday. I am not sure when we began this tradition, but it was several years ago. I usually buy the chocolate bunnies a couple of weeks before and put them in the freezer until Easter Sunday. On Easter Sunday, I make a pot of coffee and then Mom and I eat chocolate bunnies for breakfast while we watch television.

That has been the routine for several years. I suppose it will be the same this year, but I am not sure. Mom has Alzheimer’s disease, so she forgets things and she gets angry. Last year, Easter Sunday went well; however, this year the Alzheimer’s disease is a little more advances. I never know when I get her up of a morning how she will react or what her mood will be. Sometimes, Mom’s day goes smooth, sometimes she cries, and sometimes she gets angry.

I do not know how Easter Sunday will go this year. I hope it will be a good day. I pray it will be a good day. I will just have to wait and see. In the mean time, I think I will write a story about a chocolate Easter bunny.
