Tuesday Tasks: Catching Up

Catching up is the only thing I am going to accomplish today. Yesterday, I planned to do the laundry, but that did not happen because I started my day catching up on the stuff I did not accomplish yesterday. I still have to do something with the vegetables I purchased at the Farmers' Market on Monday morning. I will make a salad for lunch to go with the ground chicken I took out of the freezer yesterday.

I thought it would take the meat longer to thaw, but when I checked it this morning it was thawed and ready to cook. I will cut up some of the green onions I purchased and cut those up with the meat. The salad will contain Roman lettuce, green peppers, and radishes; I suppose I will use the salad dress I have in the refrigerator. After lunch, I will continue catching up because I have a lot more to do before I go out this evening.

This morning I wrote two poems and submitted them to contests. One of them is an Earth Day poem about green cities. Earth day is on Tuesday, April 22, so I probably have time to write another poem or story. The other poem is a genealogy about the aunt I was named after. I feel that, even though I am catching up on chores I should have completed last week, it is a good day. This afternoon I am not as stress as this morning, but that may change as the day wears on.

Earth Day 2014 is Tuesday, April 22

When I checked my inbox this morning, I found the Earth Day Network newsletter waiting for me. It contained information about the Earth Day 2014 theme, which is Green Cities. According to the newsletter, over half of Earth's population lives in cities. This means that the urban areas are growing and the side effect of this growth is that climate change worsens.That is why we need to make it a priority to power our cities with renewable energy.

We can no longer put off the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. We have to start looking at the way we power our homes and business because the future of humanity, of our children and their lively-hood are at stake. We need to begin implementing "green practices" in our lives and in our building codes. As an individual, I am not sure how I can do this, but I intend to find out.

One of the things I plan to do very the next three months is to write poems and stories concerning the subject of climate change, renewable energy, and "green cities". I know that there are other things I can do and I have to find out what "other things" I can do. Look out your window,
pick up the morning paper,
turn on the evening news,
and you will see
the Faces of Climate Change.

You will see,
humanity
struggling to survive
climate change.

You will see,
animals
on the edge of extection
because of climate change.

Walk to your bathroom mirror
and you will see
one of the Faces of Climate Change.

A gripe on Earth Day in Las Vegas

My biggest gripe about plastic trash bags are their size. They are all too big for my household of two people. If I used one of those, I would end up taking the trash out only once a week, but I have to take it out every day or it draws ants and other creepy crawlies.

I use small trashcans in both bathrooms and the kitchen because we do not have enough trash to fill tall trashcans. Sometime I do put the tall plastic trash bags in the cans, but then I feel guilty because I do not have enough trash to fill one, but I have to take the plastic trash bag out at night.

I have found a method that does work, but I am not happy about this solution. I use the plastic shopping bags to put trash in because they are small enough to put in the trashcans and I can take them every day because they are full. There must be another solution, but I have not figured it out, so until I do this is my solution for my small household.

I know I am not the only person with this problem. I know there are other household containing only one or two people that encounter this issue. I have not read anything about it, so until I discover another solution I will continue using my method to solve this problem.

Another year has past and it is Earth Day again. I recycle as much as possible and I could do better. In the coming year, I will try to do better at recycling. Sometimes it is difficult to recycle; however, that is not excuse not to do it.

Earth Day 2011: It is time

It is time to remember Mother Earth. It is time to look at our carbon footprint. It is time to do something to help alleviate the planet’s suffering and heal the wounds of greed. It is time to begin a grassroots project that will improve the plight of Earth.

Earth day approaches
time to celebrate mother Earth.

I am working on an Earth Day poem; the problem is I have not figured the approach yet. Since Earth is on April 22, I do have some time. I think I will write a form poem, celebrating mother Earth and Earth Day. I like form poems because I can focus on the poem template rather other aspects of the poem. Once the poem is written then I can rewrite, but if I am not sure about what to write a poem template helps me focus on the subject and the form.
