Tuesday's Writing List: Ten Reasons A Rant Is Not a List

01. A rant is not a list because it is not numbered.
02. A rant is not a list because it is written in paragraphs.
03. A rant is not a list because it does not focus on one subject, but rather wanders hither and yon.
04. A rant is not a list because it is not line phased, but it can be a poem.
05. A rant is not a list because it does not make any logical sense (a personal point of view).
06. A rant is not a list because, under normal conditions, it does not help me overcome depression.
07. A rant is not a list because it covers emotional issues that I cannot put in list form.
08. A rant is not a list because when I rant I do not think about what I am writing.
09. A rant is not a list because when I rant I usually exceed the word limit of a list.
10. A rant is not a list because when I rant I normally do not have to edit the list.

Tuesday's Rant: Why I like Driving in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a wonderful city to live in because it has the best and the worst drivers in the world. The reason for this is that drivers from all over Earth come to Las Vegas either to live or to visit. They bring their good and bad driving habits with them. This makes driving from one end of the city to the other an adventure. In fact, even driving in my own neighborhood is an adventure.

I went to the supermarket about 9:00 am to pick up my thyroid prescription. The supermarket I go to is on the corner of Maryland Parkway and Sahara Avenue. I live on Sunrise and Twenty-first, so I have a distance to drive through morning traffic. The traffic was mild and, most of the drivers, were awake. I got to the store safely and purchased my meds plus a few other items.

Coming home, I decided to turn on one of the residential streets that takes me from Sahara to Charleston without encountering more then a couple of four way stop signs. I came to the first four way stop and came to a complete halt. Not so the driver coming from the right of me. He (yes I am sure it was a male driver) paused without coming to a complete stop. Fortunately, I do not take my food off the break until I look in both directions and my rear view mirror (I have driven in Las Vegas over twenty years so I know to be overly cautious when I am at a four way stop sign).

    Stop signs are periods
    not commas;
you are supposed to come to a complete stop
    not simply pause.

Sometimes I get frustrated I want to write a rant

Sometimes I get so frustrated that I want to sit down and write a rant. I want to rant about several issues. The biggest issue is a company transferring me from one department to another when attempting to resolve an issue over the phone. Next on the list is customer service placing me on hold, even when music plays while I am holding. All though given the choice between hearing music and hearing nothing, I prefer to hear the music because it assures me I am still on hold.

This morning, I spent 33.5 minutes on hold and in the process of transferring from one person to the next. Each time I reached a person I had to give them my information all over again. You would think that with all the technically I could give my information once and the company transfer it to the next department. Oh well, I suppose that is too much to ask.

The good thing about holding is listening to the music. The music is usually instrumental and pleasant. Occasionally I encounter a business that uses recording of singers singing, but not often. I think it would make the wait more tolerable if the instrumentals were interspaced is vocals. I also suspect that is too much to ask.
