Fiction Friday: Since I Cannot Focus on a Story I Will Write a Poem for Luck Penny Day

It is Fiction Friday, which means this entry should contain a story. Unfortunately, my muse or my mind cannot focus because my thinking is slow this morning. I suspect this comes form the fact that I did not get to sleep until 1:30 or 2:00 am. The only explanation I can deduce is that I had too many sweets when I went to the Holy Day celebration at the Baha'i Center last night. Either that or I was too excited  to sleep because a friend gave me the book Harley-Davidson 100 Years. It really does not matter why I could not sleep just that I was unable to sleep.

Lucky Penny Day
pick up the next penny
with heads up for luck.

All right, that probably is not the greatest senyru, but it just came off the top of my head so I probably needs a bit of rewriting. Maybe I should write a Harley-Davidson poem instead. Unfortunately, I just seem to stare at the screen without any idea about how to start. Perhaps I need a little more caffeine or something more to eat then Hostess Twinkies for breakfast.

NaNoWriMo Day 15: Update and Friday Thoughts on Writing

    NaNaNoWriMo Day 14 word count = 1678
Total Word Count  to Date  = 25,165
    Percentage of 50,000 word goal = 50%

    Friday Thoughts on Writing

I can stand up for only about five minutes at a time before my leg starts hurting and I have to sit down. This makes washing dishes difficult because it means I do not get all the dishes washed. I have to figure a way to use this experience in my writing.

I realized this morning that one of the things I will miss about living in this house is the sound of a Harley-Davidson going past my house. The neighbor down the street has a Harley that he drives to work in the fall and winter. Every morning, I hear him going west on Bracken and I am going to miss the sound of his Harley when it passes my house. Perhaps I need to write an ode to a Harley-Davidson.

Another thing I am going to miss is the way this house feels when I am alone. Until this year, I never realized how lonely silence can be. All right, I am not talking about complete silence here because I can hear the refrigerator running (and I do not want anyone to tell me to go catch it). I can also hear the neighbors dog barking, which he does not do very often. I need to use this experience in one of my stories or poems.

    Muse Monday: Early Morning noise

    On Monday my muse
Wants to write poems to my
    Neighbor’s barking dog

I get up between 3:00 and 4:00 AM (when my alarm goes off). About first light this morning, a neighbor’s dog was barking. This is unusual because they do not leave the dog out at night. That dog usually goes outside later in the morning, however, today he or she was barking at something.

I set on my bed listening to the dag. It was not an angry bark, so I do not think the dog saw any strangers in the neighborhood or its yard. A cat may have startled it or another dog. It did not bark very long, when it stopped I got up. Sometimes I enjoy just sitting on the side of my bed and listening to the noises in the neighborhood.

One of the neighbors’ has a Harley, I love listening to that bike as he rides to work in the morning. I think the sound of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle is beautiful. I enjoy just sitting and listening to it and the other neighborhood noises, especially this time of year.

If I listen carefully, I hear baby birds chirping in their nest. I hear adult birds singing, marking their territory with song. There are all sorts of wonderful sounds early in the morning, if a person just stops to listen.
