Wednesday Word: Newsletter

Dictionary.com contains two definition for newsletter. The first defines a newsletter as "a written report" containing news or information of interest to a group of people with similar interest. This is the type of newsletter I am writing about in this entry. If any of my readers are interested in the second definition then just click on newsletter and it will take you to both of dictionary.com's definitions.

Today, when I logged onto writing.com, I noticed I had thirteen new messages in my inbox. I opened my inbox to find the weekly newsletters covering different genre had arrived sometime between 2:41 and 3:34 am Eastern Daylight Time. I know I cannot read all the newsletters in one day, so I will begin with the newsletters covering the topics that interest me the most. Those three newsletters are (1) Horror/Scary: Lovecraftian Horror, (2) Spiritual: A Celebration of Life, (3) Poetry: Word Play! - Playing With Poetry, and (4) Fantasy: Fantasy For The Uninitiated. I should be able to read those over the next three or four days; less if I have difficulty sleeping.

Normally, I do not begin with the Horrow/Scary newsletter; however, I am a H. P. Lovecraft fan. I cannot wait to see what this week's editor has to say about this subgenre of horror.

Writing about my next edition of the fantasy newsletter

I finished this week’s writing.com fantasy newsletter yesterday evening. My edition comes out this Wednesday, July 20. I am happy with this subject, but I think I want to do something a little different and more educational for the August newsletter.

I decided on the subject for the August newsletter yesterday. I set up the template I use to create the newsletter. Now all I need to do is some research on the subject. I will take some notes on the research and then write the letter from the editor.

After the letter is complete, I have to finds some stories or poems for the “Editor’s Picks”. Once I have found those, I finish August the newsletter and I can print a copy for proof reading before submitting. I find it is always wise to proof read a hardcopy before submitting it.

    Writing all night

I spent all night writing. I had to complete this week’s writing.com fantasy newsletter. I completed the newsletter and submitted it about 12:00 AM Pacific Time. I went to bed, but got up when the alarm went off at 4:00 AM. I did not get much sleep or rest. not that I get much sleep anyway.

The writing.com newsletters arrive in members e-mail boxes on Wednesday, April 27. I am looking forward to reading them all because I always find them intriguing and helpful.

I begun the my next edition of the writing.com fantasy newsletter

My latest edition of the writing.com fantasy newsletter came out on June 23 covering the subject of fathers. The next edition I edit is due out on July 21. I have decided on a subject, therefore I have begun writing the newsletter.

Writing.com publishes its newsletters each week, with each newsletter featuring a different editor each time. Sometimes it is difficult to find a subject, so when I do get an idea I begin working on it immediately. Time moves quickly and if I do not begin writing the newsletter as soon as possible I find myself stressing because the deadline is approaching. The deadline for my next newsletter is July 19.

    Looking for a Newsletter theme

I'm looking for a theme for my edition of the writing.com fantasy newsletter. Last year I wrote about making a writer's plan. However, I'm not going to use that theme for the January 2010 newsletter.

I just submitted the December 2009 edition, so I could let this topic rest for a day or two, but I have to get started soon. I don't like waiting until the last minute because it's too stressful. I don't need any more stress in my life right now.

The only thing I can think of is reviewing. Maybe write something on the differences in reviewing science fiction and fantasy. That theme doesn't strike me, but at this point I can't think of anything else.

Finding a Carwash to Washing my Car

According to Water Smart Living, the Southern Nevada Water Authority newsletter, it takes 100 gallons of water to wash my car at home, but only 30 gallons if I go to a carwash that recycles the water. Naturally, I am going to a water smart carwash.

Before I get the car washed, I will check the Southern Nevada Water Authority website to find a carwash near my home. I will also print off coupons to get the car washed. I think I going green and becoming water smart is fun.

    I am becoming water smart

The Southern Nevada Water Authority, sends a monthly newsletter, Water Smart Living, to all its customers. We received this month's newsletter on Monday, November 16, and I took a look at it this morning.

This little 6-page newsletter contains a lot of information about saving money and going green. In addition, this newsletter contains a coupon for $2.00 off the Winter Lights Festival in December.

According to the newsletter, I can water my yard one day a week from November 1, 2009 to February 28, 2010. Even though I do not water my yard, it is nice to know when I can water it. Now all I have to do is figure out which group I am in and for that I will have to check my water bill or go the website.
