A bird is singing
Intoning his gratitude
To the warm afternoon sun

Shadows grow longer
Sunset and evening approach
The bird says thank you

Listening to the birds
At the joy they sing to us
Whisper a prayer

The day grows cooler
The birds continue to sing
Songs of gratitude

I am thankful for
The hot butternut squash soup
That tastes good with bread
