The Year My Mother Turned 86
There are parts of that year I remember distinctly,
sitting in the waiting room
on March 19, 2007
while my mother was in surgery
when the doctor performed the bowl resection
and driving from my house to
University Medical Center everyday
for the next several weeks.
Other parts of the year are in a fog
concealed beneath the stress
which accompanied the hospital,
the rehabilitation
and recovery.
I know I wrote poetry
and made blog entries,
but I don't remember them
any more then I remember paying bills
or putting gas in the car.
