An Overheard Remark

Daily Writing Practice Prompt: Write about an overheard remark.

Spoken in confidence whispers
no one else was supposed to hear
it wasn't meant to be mean or vicious
just a comment about his fears.

He said it to a friend of many years
one who would never repeat
a secret whispered into his ears,
but her best friend heard the words.

Then repeated them to someone else
now the whole wedding party think they know
the reason for her sudden collapse
and why the wedding date was moved up three months.
