On The Last Day of September 2014
On the last day of September,
I contemplate the swift passage of the year.
I ask myself
what have I accomplished in the nine months
since New Year's Day 2014.
In nine months
a woman gives birth to a child
and I have given birth
to many poetic children
in the last nine months.
On the last day of September,
I ask myself:
Did I let go of the past?
Yes and no;
today I gave away a blouse
that I could not wear,
but had kept because
my mother made it.
I gave it away
when I realized that
Mom made the blouse
for someone to wear...
now someone will wear the blouse.
I contemplate the swift passage of the year.
I ask myself
what have I accomplished in the nine months
since New Year's Day 2014.
In nine months
a woman gives birth to a child
and I have given birth
to many poetic children
in the last nine months.
On the last day of September,
I ask myself:
Did I let go of the past?
Yes and no;
today I gave away a blouse
that I could not wear,
but had kept because
my mother made it.
I gave it away
when I realized that
Mom made the blouse
for someone to wear...
now someone will wear the blouse.
