Sitting in a doctors waiting room
surrounded by strangers
waiting to see a doctor in the clinic.

A child sings the A B C song
and memories of my own childhood
flood back
carrying with them the memory
of the first shot I received
from a doctor.

I remember running around a poll
in his examining room
while he and my mother attempted
to catch me
so he could give me a shot.
